Question.. RE: Saying 'hi' to people you don't know at your own wedding.

So, every once in a while I get all nervous about having to go around to all of the tables at my wedding to say hi to people that I don't know very well... Now I'm getting all nervous about going around to tables of people I don't know at all.

What did you do in this situation?? My mom is inviting quite a few friends from work... I don't know them! Will I have to make sure my mom is with me when I go to greet them? I know it's a silly question, but I want to be prepared and not make anyone feel bad...

ME TOO! I seriously thought I was the only one with this fear! I think I'm just going to say hi to everyone and pretend like I know them even though I don't.

I'd bring mom with you when talking to people you haven't met! It will make it much more comfortable.

Not at all! Just go over and say 'hi!' give them a hug, thank them so much for coming & tell them you hope they're having a good time... that's all you have to do! You don't need to use their names or anything if you don't know them, it's not a big deal. In fact they'll probably introduce themselves to you anyway. Act like it's not something awkward & it won't feel that way!

i actually have this fear for my wedding and for my shower! there are some long lost relatives that i may not recognize and i just think its going to be really awkward and uncomfortable if they show

Dont worry, many will come up to you to say congratulations. Just say thank you so much for coming, hope they enjoy their evening. As far as moms co-workers, yeah you can have your mom introduce you to them, im sure she'll do it regardless though. Say nice to meet you and same thing, thank you for coming and let me say that they'll be the ones talking mostly. They'll say how beautiful you look, how great everything is and congratulations and other well wishes. Then just thank them and again tell them you hope they have a great time

I just said 'hi, thanks for coming', listened for a minute or two while they congratulated me, and politely moved on to the next person. Its probably not going to be as much of a problem as you think....you really wont have any time to stress about these types of things that day...there will be so many people pulling you in so many different directions that it will just happen organically.

There were some people at my shower that I didn't know and I just went around and kissed everyone hello like I knew them and said thank you for being there. I felt completely comfortable with doing this which really surprised me so I hope I feel the same on my wedding day. I don't think you need to have your Mom with you to greet them but it would probably make you feel better so you should ask her to.

I think I'm going to be this way too. You'll be on such a high you won't be able to feel fear or nervousness.

I am SO shy so I was very worried about this but it was FINE. I just went up to everyone and kissed them and said 'Thanks for coming.' You automatically have something to talk about because it is YOUR wedding. They will compliment you and you can say things like 'Hope you have a great time, Make sure you get up to dance, you HAVE to try the mozzarella balls' And then move on - it is so easy!

They'll expect you not to know them, it will be fine! My parents friends, some I know, some I don't--older adults always know that you're going to stop for a minute and move along, they've been to weddings before! Just say, ohh I've heard so much about you, how is XXX? or something along those lines--it's all small talk

I hope this is the case with me too. I have a big mouth and very talkative when I know i have something in common with someone or if I already know them....but strangers...I'm useless, I get all tongue tied and my humor tries to come out and doesn't always work.

People who don't know you will probably come up and introduce themselves. That's what happened at mine. Also my mom dragged her 'friends' over that I didn't know for me to say hello. Same with FIL, I knew like, 2 of his friends and he invited 10 couples, didn't know any of the, they all introduced themselves or he took care of it. I wouldn't worry about it.

Say hi thank them for attending or bring mom w/ you to those tables. Try not to stress - it is alright if you do not know someone's name.

I was nervous about this too. I am reading the response cards and asking FH who these people are....I don't know half of my guests.

I plan on saying a quick hello and moving on to the dancing and enjoying my day!
