Question re: Wedding Gowns

Well, my wedding gown arrived, so I went to the bridal shop to look at it, make sure it was the right gown, etc., and I also wanted to try it on with my shoes and underwear to make sure that all worked.

Anyway, when I put it on, I had an 'Eh, this is it? This is the dress I loved?' reaction. It's too big for one thing, which my fittings will take care of, but has anyone else had this reaction? I think it may have been built up too much in my mind the past few months.

On a more serious note though, the chiffon overlay bunches up horribly! I asked the woman at the shop about it, and she said the steaming should take care of this. There is a matte satin skirt underneath, and after it was on a few minutes, the chiffon was staticy and riding up all over the place! I hope she is right--anyone have experience with this?

Re: Question re: Wedding Gowns

I had a bland response to my wedding gown also when it came in. I'm still not super-psyched about it and I continuously torture myself by looking at pictures of other ones.

My skirt is a straight A-line skirt, no chiffon but I did experience static with the lining. I think the static was due more to the bridal shop. There is a ton of static electricity generated there due to all the materials and the plastic dress covers.

agreed!!! But bring a can of static-guard, just in case. Can't hurt to be prepared!

Thank you so much! I think I was just having a bad reaction, but thanks for your reassurances. It helps to know others go through the same things.

Yeah, I'm giving my bridesmaids static guard. If worst comes to worst they might have to follow me around with it!

I had chiffon over matte satin and didnt have any issues with it! but always be prepared and have your static guard ready!
Also, I have had the reaction before, I wouldnt worry too much, once you have the dress and its the right size and everything is all together I am sure you will get the lovey dovey feeling again!

Re: Question re: Wedding Gowns

i had the SAME RESPONSE!! The dress is wrinkly, didn't fall right, my mom was convinced because of the way it looked they ordered me the wrong dress. NOT SO!

As soon as I went for my first fitting and they began to pin, i felt so much better. By the second fitting, the dress was to my height, fit perfect and began to de wrinkle. I fell in love it all over again.

ABSOLUTELY! I felt the same way when my dress came in. It was too big, it was wrinkled, I didn't have my slip or undergarments....I was scared too. But each time I went for a fitting and the dress started to look like it would on the big day I felt better. By the last fitting, I had my tiara, veil, gloves and shoes I had 'that' feeling back!

I was certainly less than thrill when my gown came in....especially since it was HUGE. Kinda wished that I had waited a little longer and tried on more gowns before picking one because everywhere I turn, there is one gorgeous dress after another!

my good friend who just got married went through the SAME EXACT thing. I promise you - once it is tailored to your body, and, like many of the other girls said - once you have you hair, veil, makeup, etc. on - 'that' feeling will come back!

I always think of this and it makes me feel better when I worry I wont like my dress as much .... you could walk down the aisle in a white sheet that day and I guarantee your FH will think you are gorgeous!!!

Do not stress over it, it will all be okay in the end! PROMISE
