Get the blue Crane's Tiffany etiquette book. We used it at the place that did my invites and it helped SO much!

Re: Question regarding addressing invitations

This is how we did it:

if a couple is not married but lives in the same house, how do you address the envelope?

Mr. Jim Doe and Ms. Anne Smith

What if both husband and wife are doctors?
what if only wife is doctor?

We did Dr. Jim Doe and Dr. Anne Smith (she kept her maiden name)

For a Dr. wife I'd do....

Mr. Jim Doe and Dr. Anne Doe
or Mr. and Dr. Jim Doe?

what if couple has an adult son that you want to invite who lives in same house?

send a seperate invite
Mr. Jim Doe or if you want to send just one:

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Doe
Mr. Jim Doe
123 Spring Street...

HTH!

Re: Question regarding addressing invitations

IF THEY LIVE IN SAME HOUSE BUT DIFFERENT NAME IT GOES LIKE THIS:

1) WHOMEVER HAS LAST NAME IS IN ABC ORDER

Ms. Jane Doe
Mr. John Smith
123 BlueMoon Drive
Hicksville, New York 000000

if his last name is closer to 'a' then he goes first

Mr. Jon Almond
Ms. Jane Doe
123 BlueMoon Drive
Hicksville, New York 00000

make sure you write out the state no abbrevations.

if you have kids in a household you are inviting: (oldest name goes 1st)

Mr. and Mrs John Doe
Julia and Christine
123 BlueMoon Drive
Hicksville, New York 000000

or

Mr. and Mrs John Doe
Julia, Christine and Thomas
123 BlueMoon Drive
Hicksville, New York 000000

i hope this helps

Re: Question regarding addressing invitations

We had a couple where the wife was a doctor and the husband was not.

Dr. Jane and Mr. John Smith

If the couple is not married and they live in the same house, BOTH names are put on and the lady's name goes first.

Adult children should get their own invitations.

hmm my book and other website info tells me to put it in abc order whomever is first does not matter as long as it is in abc order

Re: Question regarding addressing invitations

thanks everyone!!!!

so you actually have to write out:
The Doctors John Smith ?

and for children, if you dont know their names, can you just write...
Mr. and Mrs. John Smith and Family ?

Ditto! But I would send a separate invite to the adult son.
