Just curious, how many of us think we would become stay at home moms once we have kids?

Re: Question- SAHM or stick with career?
All depends on the situation. If when we are married and we are finacially secure enough to do it. Why not? There is nothing wrong with wanting to be a stay-at-home parent for either mother or father, just like there is nothing wrong with going to work and supporting your family. Either way its a team effort.
If I can I'll try it out to see how it is.

Re: Question- SAHM or stick with career?
while I definitely want to be able to have kids and spend time with them, this is also my life too, and I'm just not sure I could ever see myself being truly contented with my life if I don't have something for myself. I think if I ended up spending my life catering to the kids, I'd get very discontented, and that would not be good.
Some people may think that's selfish, but the way I see it, as long as any kids I may have are well taken care of, it's not really anybody else's business, and that's what I think I would need to feel fulfilled in my life, and that should definitely count for something.

I think all sides of the issue have good points. im just curious what the difference in responses is. i agree with you & charliesbride. i think I am going to try switching to part-time/lesser hrs.

Re: Question- SAHM or stick with career?
i would like to stay at home but it depends on our financial situation. I could just go part time...but i love work...most likely I will be working full time!!!

Re: Question- SAHM or stick with career?
i will be working full time - i love my career - i spent too much time in school to quit! and FH is a teacher meaning he will have summers of to watch the kids. his parents are both retired, so they will probably watch our kids when we are at work.

Re: Question- SAHM or stick with career?
Both my parents worked full time and I don't feel slighted or any less loved in anyway in fact I was well taken care of and provided for. To me this helped me to be who I am today and I canot see it any other way than me working and providing the best for my kids. Wedding bunny has made a great point as well, I would be bored and discontented catering to kids all day...I would need some adult conversation in my life....JMO

Re: Question- SAHM or stick with career?
Although i would love to stay home with the kids, I have invested way tooooo much time and money into becoming a doctor and there is no way i'm gonna give that up. Perhaps I'll do part time at some point (which for a doc means 45 - 40hrs).

Re: Question- SAHM or stick with career?
Will continue to work full-time. If I could work from home, I'd do that but chances are I'll work full-time. My mom worked full-time my whole life and believe me, I'm a far more productive person because of it. I have almost 100K debt from going to law school, I will be working for several years to pay that off. I have the biggest earning potential in our relationship right now so I will be the one working full-time. If D wanted to work part-time or go to school and stay home with the kids then more power to him.

Re: Question- SAHM or stick with career?
I really dont think that I couls stay at home. I would stay home for a ceratin amount of time afterwards, but I dont know if I could not be busy. I think it depends on where we are in life at that point as far as financially
