Just wondering aside from signing our life away what else can I expect at a closing? Personally I don't think my lawyer is very communicative....

Re: Question: What can I expect at a closing?
thats pretty much it.. that and your final check i think... also - homeowners insurance.. make sure you have a copy on hand. ours last about two hours.. but from experience, i would make sure that your lawyer reviews all pertinent info for the closing (interest rates, down payment etc) with a magnifying glass! for some reason, i]our lawyer happened to 'overlook' something very important on our contract and we almost had to postpone our closing.. once we had already signed nearly everything! thankfully (after some shouting matches), they were able to recify the situation and we closed that day. but make sure he check s everything twice! good luck!

I am so excited that your are closing. It is nothing to worry about. We just sat with our lawyer on one side of a big table and the previous owner sat on their side with their lawyer. Then there was the bank lawyer and basically the lawyers went thru paper after paper and told us when to sign and the gist or what we were signing. While the lawyers went thru numbers and paperwork we chatted away with the previous owners and talked about moving and the house. At the end, we gave a big check and they handed us the keys!
When we first went into the room, it was a little tense. I think both lawyers had on their tuff acts but once things got started it clamed down.
It lasted maybe a couple hours.

It is not a law LOL To tip the closer however I have never been to a closing where I did not see cash or a check for anywhere from 50-100 handed to the title closer
basically youll just be signing routine stuff you have to bring your drivers license

See these are things I wanted to know. Why do I have to tip the title closer? Isn't that someone different than the attorney?? I never dealt with the title closer personally.

you do not have to tip its become 'customary' B/c the title closer pretty much runs the show and does the closing, however, they are being paid to do that! lol
at any rate I go to closings a lot, and the closer always gets a tip, if you do not want to I would let your attorney know beforehand b/c I have seen closing statements where bank attorneys tip the closer and you do not even know!

tammy - you just jogged my memory - yes - my lawyer pretty much explained it the same way you did - they told us it wasn't mandatory but that most people do it so it is kind of just become a regular thing now - it wasn't a lot of money (at that rate) so we just did it too!

Also, make sure you bring your checkbook. Sometimes, there can be little unexpected expenses that you need to pay for (if something was estimated wrong, etc.). It happened to me at my closing - someone had miscalculated something (I think it was our mortgage person) and I needed to write yet another check!

I think everyone explained it well. We didn't have to sign a million checks, our title company handled that and we wrote two big checks instead. I had to write a few checks for small amts. tho'.
I expected it to be different. Everyone was chatting about the holiday (we closed a day before Thanksgiving) and Rob and I are just sitting there signing papers our lawyer was explaining.
Good Luck sweetie!!!

Make sure you get the keys!! The previous homeowners almost walked out without giving us the keys She was very emotional and my FH was VERY overwelmed to remember until I said 'What about the keys?' as they exited the room. Then we had a tail gate party in the parking lot with champage!
Good Luck!!! It's not as bad as everyone says. Just a lot of paperwork going back and forth. Our lawyer explained EVERYTHING to us. Make sur you have your checkbook incase of small fees they forgot to mention. You'll be fine!!
