Question with Poll!! Please answer!!

Do you think its a bad idea to start using dishes and other registry items before you get married?

i personally would. i don't see what the big deal is. it would be silly to have to buy other dishes to use if you got good ones as gifts.

I don't think it's a bad idea. We're not using anything, because we're moving soon and to unapck everything only to repack it up again makes no sense to me. Plus I think there's a bit of me that wants to use our 'new' stuff in our 'new' place. But I certainly don't think using it is a 'bad' thing. Do what makes you happy!

Right now they are all in their boxes, but as soon as FI and I get our house we are putting them to use! Really we can either use them or paper plates, cause they are all we have!

Not a bad idea at all!

The only reason I have not started using any I received yet is b/c FH and I don't live together, I live w/ my brother and somethings we have/use already, but I registered for new ones b/c ALOT of the stuff I have/use now is going to become my brother's when I get married.

we've received a few registry gifts and have not used any yet, but we're definitely going to before the wedding.

We are waiting until after the wedding. Since we already live together and have most of what we need, we thought it would be special to wait to use everything after we are officially a married couple.....plus we simply can't fit everything into our small apartment, but hope to upgrade our living arrangements after the wedding.

I guess I'm the miniority here but I wouldn't. All my gifts are piled in the corner of my apartment and are not being used until were married. FH thinks I'm crazy but I'm superstitious.

I don't think it is bad in any way. But, I didn't use any of my stuff until we were married because I'm silly about new stuff and I'm superstitious.

Personally, I think it's bad luck. Those items were bought with the intention of you using them when you are married. If you still lived at home you wouldn't use them. Not to mention, you were using something before you got them.

I just had this conversation over the weekend - and my mother was aghast when I said that my FI would use some of the stuff we already have for our house (from engagement gifts, etc - haven't had my shower yet) - since he is moving in to our house 5 months before the wedding - so what - we should either buy duplicate stuff or have him eat pizza or take out everynight with a plastic fork and knife?!?!

We don't live together, so obviously we're saving all of our gifts until we're married. I think that it's nice to save the new stuff until after you're married.

i moved into my house and received some engagement gifts off my registry.
you can bet i used them right away!! why let them collect dust!

Use it! I only got a spice rack but I have no storage in this place. My dishes may have to get opened soon.
It is old school not to use them before the wedding...I don't see the big deal these days. I maybe wrong though. I have no problems using gifts before the wedding.

We used a few things we really needed but waited, just finished unpacking and organizing everything today (took two full days)! I was being a traditionalist (plus I didn't live with DH until right before wedding). Do whatever is best for you though!
