Questions for Milleridge Cottage brides

Hi, I just wanted to check how they worked the food up in the bridal suite during the cocktail hour-we are going with the two-star menu and were curious, do they give you everything upstairs that they are having downstairs? Also, during the cocktail hour, is food constantly replenished, both upstairs & downstairs? For anyone that has gone with two-star menu, did you change anything, like adding or taking something away? How did that work? For instance, we were thinking of adding fried calamari, making it five instead of four hot dishes & possibly changing chicken marsala that is listed on cocktail menu to chicken francese? Sorry so long!! Also, where do they set the cake up during the reception or do they bring it out when it's time to cut it? Just wondering because I have a bride & groom that belonged to my late aunt & uncle and was a little worried if I should use them or not on top of cake. Thanks so much, Helen

Hi Helen...We are getting married at the cottage Oct. 13, 2002...As far as the food in the bridal suite.I am unsure. I am going to be at my cocktail hour so I would not really know...That suite is SO TINY!! I'm sure they will do whatever you ask them to do. About the cake, I am unsure as to where it is set up..that may be up to you as well..I would not hesitate using the topper of your choice...Finally about the add ons.....We are adding the raw bar(at a mere $15 a head ouch!!) and the fried calimari may be a good idea too :)thanks!! Who knows what else may come to mind in the next 14 months....When is your big day? Steph

Hi, I'm getting married at the Cottage in..13 days! August 5th. We are actually having our ceremony in the atrium and then are taking pictures during the cocktail hour. We have the two-star menu, haven't added anything to it b/c I truly believe it's more than enough food. As for the bridal suite, I think it is pretty small. I only have 4 girls in my wedding party so I think we'll be fine but otherwise, I'm not so certain how many people you can fit up there. Good Luck w/your planning. :) P.S. we are having our cake brought out to cut it only since it's whipped cream, it can't sit out.

Hi Helen- We used our cocktail hour to take pics for the most part so we only hung out in the bridal suite for about 15 minutes while people came in and they brought us crudite and the hors d`ouvres that are served, not the food in the chafing dishes or pasta but the stuff that they walk around with on trays. Again, we were taking pics alot of the time so they just followed us around with the finger foods. If you are in the bridal suite, you can have them bring you whatever you want - that is one of the things a bridal attendant will take care of. We didn`t add onto the cocktail hour or dinner but we did substitute stuff. One of the dishes I love is chicken francaise so I asked them to make it when we went for the tasting and then I chose it as the chicken dish for the wedding. It was really good and they give 2 big pieces of chicken in each serving. We also had the sliced sirloin and the salmon. Many people told us the cocktail hour was an unbelieveable amount of food so I was happy to hear that of course. We switched pastas around a bit per our taste and also requested corned beef for the carving station (it was also St Pats day) - and of course they will replenish the food! You will see that between the bridal attendant and the maitre`d, you will be waited on hand & foot. The cake is displayed behind you to the side of the fireplace. On the opposite side they put the table for gifts which is where I put my card box and our basket of chocolate bars that we were going to distribute later when we went around. If you choose whipped cream icing they cannot display your cake the whole time so you will have to go with butter cream. I don`t really like butter cream but I chose it so I could have the cake out and they never brought it out until the cake cutting time (the only thing they did wrong) and I noticed but truthfully, I didn`t bother saying anything because it was my wedding day, I was the amazing cloud and I didn`t really care. Anyway, as for your cake topper, if something happens to anything you bring in, they will replace it brand new. Since yours is of sentimental value, you can`t quite put a price on it so it`s one of those things that you have to decide on for yourself. I will say that I was leery because the cake topper and toasting glasses were expensive -and breakable- gifts but we got everything back clean and carefully wrapped - so they seemed to take good care of our stuff. I was married last Sept. in the carriage house, but the service is the same. We had the cake out the whole time, set up on one side. We didn't have a topper. Our toasting glasses were 35 years old - they're still around! We packed them well and gave them to the staff when we dropped off our favors. At the end of the evening, they gave them back to us all packed up. If you're worried about leaving your cake topper when you leave your favors, have mom or MOH bring it the day of. As for food. We missed our cocktail hour (and had snuck away to get pictures taken) so they had no idea where we were. But they brought a selection from the cocktail hour to our table. We substituted a lot of things. We swapped horsedeourves for extra ingredients for the omelette station. We still ended up having an awesome selection at the cocktail hour. The staff at the milleridge are true professionals. They will take care of everything, and you won't have to worry about anything on your big day.

We had the 2 star menu-- we added shrimp bowls which were phenomenal--the shrimp were huge( I dont think they do this anymore) we did change the pasta selections-- and we added the viennese hour as well-- as for the cake--that was the best part--it was on the table next to the fireplace as elizabeth said--they put the BM bouqets on the table as well--I am so happy that I did fresh flowers on the cake--they matched exactly to the bouqets so the table looked amazing-- as for the bridal suite-- they started our cocktail hour early and brought thigns up-- we did not stay up there--but our bridal attendant was phenomenal as was our maitre'd--I cant say enough about Steve-- I think that was everything Laura
