Questions on Photography
I want to start looking at Photographers, but I am a little clueless about what kind of package I want and prices. I was thinking of having about 300 proofs...is that enough? Also I don't want any parent albums, I just wanted an album with 40-50 pics...is that enough? Do you get extra prints as well for frames, etc? How much should I expect to budget for photography?

Personally, I didn't think 300 was very many so I booked a photographer who averages 3x that number. The entire day is at least 10 hours - thats only 30 shots an hour. I figured at least half of them I would hate immediately so that didn't leave me with very many. In terms of budget, there is such a variation. Do you want traditonal or photojournalistic? Do you want color or B/W or both? Do you one or two photographers? Do you want a high quality library bound album or a simple slip in photo album? Do you want all the proofs? Depending on the photographer & the package, you could spend anywhere from 2K to 20K. Im spending about 5K for 2 photographers, high quality album with 50 pictures, 1 simple parent album, B/W & color, all day coverage, a few enlargements, an engagement sitting & 1000 proofs

Questions on Photography
The price range for photography is extremely wide - and several that I checked out had packages already set. Before you visit a photographer, make a list of what you need (how many photos in your album, how many prints for bridal party, thank yous, etc.). That way you can find out the price they will charge for what YOU need. Then you can make a choice based on what you want to spend.

I agree 100% w/sonicstef. Maybe that's why we chose the same studio :) When Mike & I discussed photography we went with the theory that we'd rather have more to choose from then regret missing certain once in a lifetime shots. We couldn't be happier. We have over 1500 proofs and were amazed at the little moments that were captured that we were not aware of. Some people say we spent too much, but we wouldn't change a thing. Our pictures are incredible and we will have them forever! Talk to several studios and see what you can work out. Perhaps you could spend more up front for more proofs or 2 photographers and put your album and reprints on hold for bit. You can always add on later, but you can't recreate lost moments. That's just my $.02! Michele

HELP! - Photography
Is it possible to get a good photographer for $2K? My FI doesn't want to spend a lot and is at the point where he wants to bring his own camera to the wedding and take his own pics. We only want one album (50 pics) with all color photos and maybe a handful of prints to give away. Does anyone know of any inexpensive photographers?

Look into my photographer, Laurie Studio. He has an open ended 'ala carte' type pricing plan, where you choose exactly what you want, and omit what you don't want. His pricing begins at $2000, and goes up in $1000 increments. What you actually pay for is his amount of time spent with you, and you then get that much to spend on pictures. For example, we chose the $5000 package, and got 2 photographers, one shooting color, and 1 shooting b&w who stayed with us from 2 hours before the ceremony until the end of the reception, and a 3 location engagement shoot. We then had $5000 to spend on our pictures. For that $5000, we got a 10x10 album with 88 pictures,(some panoramic, and some b&w with hand tinting), 2 40 picture parent albums, 2 11x14s, 8 8x10s, numerous 5x7 and 4x6s (I can't remember the exact #), and 200 thank you's. We actually went just a bit over the $5000, and that was fine, we just paid the difference at the end. Good luck with your search!
