Questions to ask at venue visits?

Questions to ask at venue visits?

I'm doing my first venue visit tomorrow (well later today really- since it's 1:30 am right now!). I want to know what pivotal questions I should ask. I'm visiting Crest Hollow and the Sterling and going to call for appointments at Woodbury, Westbury and Metropolitan.

Thanks!

Oh heyyyy. I know you

My advice would be to ask for the total per plate after tax. That way you have the exact amount and no surprises the day of. I love both the places you're looking at. The Sterling is where Anthony & Gina had their reception. Great place. Your hubby-to-be can vouch for that!

My hubby to be couldn't remember it even though he was a groomsman! o_O I had messaged Gina for input and she said she LOVED it. Food is #1 for me and she said she had zero complaints and is still getting people complimenting her. I have never heard of the place until I started searching TBH so I'm nervous. My family usually gets married at Marina Del Rey, Russo's... I can't afford to breathe the air in those places lol

omg I had the biggest list for the sterling! I was nervous bc I know alot of people go to places like u spoke of! u don't hear about the sterling much so I wanted to make sure I wasn't getting the short end of the stick by going there and doing the all incusive package!
I tried to think of things that they don't normally tell u. they will tell u price per person for the 100, then anyone over the 100. I asked what type of boozes they have, ive had a bad experience at manor east where thw bar wasnt stocked enough!! um I asked if we could try the food before we booked, I asked kids prices, I asked how many people each room held and what the min for each room was ( we couldnt decide between the conti room.woth the led dance floor or tje chamagne room with the hidden staircase grand entrance) if u got to the sterling caterers site they havr a special of the month ( I got a free chocolate foundation, which I didnt want so I alsed if I xould have something else they saod yrs something of equal value in food...im getting it.now fh really wants it) um I cant remembef what else I aksed im sorry! I didnt ask.the other places anything except the pirce I didnt make.my long list of questions till we decided on the sterling!
if the sterling doesn't work and u r on a tight budget there in a long.list of all inclusive venue that have the same thing as the sterling. windowa on the lake, the east wind, some lessings venues offer it now too like west sayville mansion ( theree is others) both seacliff manor and the stuart manor country club have winter all inclusive package!! that's just a few of the nicest ones I can remember there are others I didn't care for personally.

good luck!!! congrats!!

Hahahah that's too funny about John not remembering! I was a bridesmaid in their wedding and their wedding really was so fun.

Ooh yeah the Marina Del Ray is really really nice. Jonathan's sister had her reception there. It really is pricey unfortunately.

Good luck today, I wanna hear how it went!

I was REALLY underwhelmed by the Sterling. The food and value was okay but I wasn't a fan of the building and grounds. Diane was really nice and went through everything in detail but it just didn't fit my personality. Crest Hollow was gorgeous and the price difference wasn't tremendous either (although it was higher than what other people have been quoted). I just rather do all inclusive out of pure laziness to be frank. lol. I'm going to look at the Metropolitan, Woodbury, and Westbury before I decide though.

the sterling was our cup of tea but there are easy fancier all inclusive venues. we aren't very fancy. the ones I listed in my first comment are fancier! good luck!

Thanks! I will definitely add those places on my list of venues to check out. It wasn't so much that it wasn't fancy enough since my ideal wedding would be a carnival or central park and then a train ride to a pizzeria lol. I couldn't put my finger on it really. Maybe it was the video dance floor.

hey it's not for everyone. we went with the big room with the staircase. we liked the 'club' type style to it.

I'm getting married in October so ideally the ceremony would be outdoors. I was big on what Plan B was for the ceremony if it rains and how far in advance I have to decide. Also, FH and I knew we were doing a 'first look' and pictures prior to the ceremony so it was important how far in advance we could arrive to take photos.

I'm going to copy and paste from a file my friend sent me that i printed out and brought with me. it was SOOO helpful:

Site Name:
Contact Person
Phone Number

What date and times are available?

How many people can the space comfortably accommodate for a seated dinner?

How many people can the space hold for the cocktail hour?

Do you provide tables, chairs, linens, china, and glassware?

Is there a choice of style for any of the above?

How many guests per table?

How does the flow work if more than one room is used?

Where will the cocktails be served?

How far in advance can we arrive for pictures?

Will other parties be taking place at the same time?

Is there a party immediately before or after ours?

Is there an on-site coordinator?

Will someone be there on the wedding day to accept deliveries and ensure that all other details run smoothly?

Are there particular vendors we must use?

What are the rules regarding alcohol? (No shot policy?)

Do you charge a bottle/corking fee?

Are there good spots for formal pictures?

What is the parking capacity?

Is there valet parking? What does it cost?

How do you decorate? Do we need to get decorations?

Are there amenities for the bathroom or do we make them?

Are there set menu packages or can one be custom made?

How do you accommodate last minute changes?

Do you offer tastings? If so, is there an additional charge?

Is the wedding cake extra?

If we contract the wedding cake from a private baker, do you charge a cake-cutting fee?

Is champagne for the toast included? If not, what is the charge?

Do you offer meals for the vendors at a lower price? How much?

How much of a deposit is required?

When is the balance due?

What is your cancellation policy?
