Questions you need to ask a videographer
Hi Ladies. I just hired a videographer and found some info I think might be helpful.
1. Who does the editing? Companies will farm this out and I feel thats not in the best interest of the bride and groom
2. Can you purchase the raw footage? We will have an edit, but will also buy all the raw footage. Its just a nice thing to have even thought its hours and hours of video.
3. What kind of equipment do they use?
a. Camera- Do NOT go with high def. The high def cameras need MORE light to function. If you have a dark, intimate setting you dont want really bright light's from the video in the room
b. Wattage of bulb they DO use - it should be around 35 watts
c. Tripod during reception- If they do use one talk to the about it. It can be VERY obtrusive. But they might use it for specific things, like the bo-k toss so they can get above everything. This is a really important question to ask how they incorporate it into the wedding.
4. Who is in charge- do they have a problem with you saying 'Pictures are more important, so if the photog says move, you move'. Basically FH and I have a priority on photo's. Our Photog will be in charge and has priority during the wedding if there is any issue that might arise. And its also true if Video is more important to you than pix. Make sure all parties know what you want for the day.
5. How much does 2 cameras cost? For us we are having 2 cameras for the ceremony only. We dont want the videographer standing up with us and possibly getting in the photos. They are mounting a camera right by us that wont be seen.
6. When do they get paid? Our video guy despises the Bride and groom giving them money on the day of the sedding. He takes half up front as a deposit. 1/4 two weeks before the wedding, and 1/4 the day he hand s you the finished product.......
7. When do you get the finished product? We get ours 2 weeks after the wedding.
8. What do they video and what do they charge to do it? They can charge extra for the bride getting ready, or the groom getting ready.
9. How long are they contracted for? My guy comes 2 hours before the ceremony and stays to the end. He has no time limit. He stays for the whole thing. But my photog DOES have a time limit and we will end up paying overtime for him that day.
10. Do you have to feed them? In my opinion you should. A happy full vendor is a happy vendor.
11. Discuss what you want and dont want- We do NOT want the video to have 'personal' messages. To us we just know everyone is going to say the same thig over and over again 'we are so happy for you and wish you the best'. So no interviews with guests. We do want the photo shoot before the ceremony covered.
Have a great wedding everyone.
