This is long...I have a few questions for all of you who have been planning a little bit...we got engaged 2 weekends ago but I have been planning so much even before. His parents are from Delaware and mine are from here. We have decided to narrow down a list to a few RHs to visit with my parents on November 18 (the only day we have free until December). From there we will narow it down to 2 or 3 Then his parents are going to come up in December to look at the 2 or 3.. I am really trying to involve his mom because she doesnt have any daughters and she is so excited about everything.
Did you make an appointment for all the RHs you went to visit??
Also, what do you think of this idea for favors?? I have been thinking so much about this because I want it to be a fun/useful gift? I (I mean we) decided that we would buy small envelopes (see picture) and place new ork state lotto scratch offs that we will buy around valentines day so they have hearts on them...each envelope will have a 2009 penny...is this trashy.. everyone so far thinks it is a cute idea...but they might just be really nice.
I think the favor idea is very cute about the RH's I always made an appt. to go down and see them...most would only see us on weekdays b.c. they were preparing for weddings on weekends - I dont know if that's the case for every RH but I would just be aware of that since the 18th is a sunday - but definitiely make appts.! I've been making appointments. I wanted to stop in to a few places this weekend when I had free time, but they pretty much all told me to not even bother b/c they had events going on and we wouldn't be able to see anything.
Oh and the favor is really cute.

Okay so I guess I have to make appointments... how do you make an appointment during the week....FH works in Manhatten so he leave at 7am and comes home at 7pm. How late do they usually allow you to come..we live SO FAR from everything! Did anyone run into this same problem?

I have an appointment tomorrow at 8 pm. I think most of them have hours until 9 during the week.

As for the RH, I booked half of them. Others I knew were in the same area as the one I had the appointments with so I just stopped in to see if they had some time..and they let me in with no problem. I can only go on the weekends also because FH works a crazy schedule that changes daily but generally hes gone from 11AM-11PM. I went to check out Giorgios and Louis XVI yesterday and they both told me to come in early. I had to be a Giorgrios at 11. They may want you to come early so thaty ou can see everything. A lot of halls won't let you look at anything if a wedding is going on, which of course is a good thing, because you don't want girls coming to look on the day of your wedding.

i made appts to see rh's after looking at a million places online and speaking w/ bm's over the phone about pricing & guarantees. i only met w/ a handful, and i did pop in unannounced on some that were close by.

I think the favors are a cute idea and you dont have to make an appointment during the week but, on the weekend they have events going on so I know they like you to come early before the event starts. A RH told me to come on Saturday anytime before 11AM so the best bet is to call... because if something is going on at the hall they wont want to show you around

I think those favors are adorable! When I went to different RHs, I called ahead for all of them just to double check. Some places I needed to make an appointment to go see, others just told me the best time to come.

Some RH's have weekend appointments. They will either work them around the weddings that day (ie early in the am) or you won't get to see the whole place because of the ongoing function.

the favors are very cute! and as far as the rh's go, i would call and make an appt just to make sure someone is available to sit down and talk with you. i'm sure most rh's will be able to accommodate a day/time that is good for you to come in.

I think your idea on the favors are very good. You should call for appointments and try to set them up a weekend to knock some of them out. FH & I did 5 RH's over a saturday and sunday.
