Me and FH are going to his friends wedding on Saturday. They have a registry but most of the stuff are gone already and the only things left are inexpensive things and I don't ant to buy a whole bunch of stuff to add up to a certain amount. Is it okay to just give them cash even though they gave us the cards to all three of their registries?..If yes how much money should we give?

Re: Quick Question
cash is ususally best for a wedding. depending how close you are, id give anywhere from $300-500 for the two of you

Re: Quick Question
I think $150-$200 is a good amount. Basically whatever you can afford.

Re: Quick Question
wedding = cash.
regardless if u are close or not, ur close enough that they invited u
and their cost per plate doesnt vary based on their relationship with each guest. 150-200 per person is safe.

Re: Quick Question
JMO, but I don't think its necessary to cover your plate. That's one trend I see around here that I completely disagree with.
Give what you feel comfortable giving - a gift card to their registry is also acceptable- you don't have any say over when and where people hold their weddings - people are having you there because they want you to celebrate with them - not to make money.

Cash is definitely acceptable.
Where is the wedding, maybe someone can help you out. Generally you want to try to cover your plate, but if not, you do what you can.

Re: Quick Question
Thanks ladies, the wedding is in Florida. He is actually a co-worker of FH. I was planning on giving $200 but i wasn't sure if that was too little. If he was a good friend of ours I would have given much more but I felt comfortable giving $200 because they are a nice couple.

Re: Quick Question
i understand what you are syaing about the couple not having a wedding to make money and to give what you want to give.
if some1 was to have a wedding at oheka and spend 400k on a wedding, thats their business. 150-200 per plate is playing it safe for the 'normal' rhs.

Re: Quick Question
always try to cover your plate. I would suggest 150 - 200 in the envelope.

Re: Quick Question
I think $200 is fine for a FL wedding. Especially since you also have to travel.

I usually give that amount myself - I just don't like to view it in terms of 'cover your plate'. I prefer to think of it as a nice gift for starting a life together.
I know I am silly, I have just been taken aback by friends b*tching about the amounts people gave at their weddings.
But I think $200 for a wedding in Florida is very thoughtful and generous. I went to a wedding in OH and we gave about 250 for the 2 of us and the couple was a bit stunned that we gave that. Around here is NOT the norm!!
