quick ? regarding budget, realistic or unrealistic
hi everyone,
I am looking for advice. I am trying to plan a January 2010 wedding, and looking to stay under 17k if at all possible for around 100-120 people. Is this completely unrealistic, or is it possible?
Thanks in advance

It is definitely possible! I just don’t know how, lol. I heard that doing a wedding on Sunday can help a lot with the cost.

Winter wedding on a sunday is the cheapest you can do! Take my word for it - that's what I'm doing!
There are all kinds of ways to save money... As of this moment - our wedding budget is $15,288.48 and that's for 80. I know it will hit at least 100 - but it'll be under the $17,000 number or else i'll have to rob a few banks...

You can do it, you just have to be realistic with your choices. This site is great for advice and recommendations. Research online as well, there are a lot of great tips on many wedding websites. Good luck!

It is definitely possible, u just cant go spending 4k-6k on photo/video, & 2k-4k on music. I think that is where a lot of money goes other than RH. It just isn't worth it. Find reputable vendors who will do the same job as LIW vendors for half the price.
I actually found my photographer in the yellow pages. He is a one man show + the videographer, & I am paying well under 4k for photo/video.

I think it's possible if you have an off season wedding (Jan/Feb?). You could also have a weeknight wedding or Sunday brunch.

Re: quick ? regarding budget, realistic or unrealistic
any suggestions on which halls work the best in the Winter? I imagine ones like CLM right on the water may not be the best choice (though I like the food), but some sites are better in the winter than others from what I have heard

clm is still a good site, as are others on the water. just b/c its winter doesnt make them bad. the water could be beautiful if its all iced and snow covered

But a place like CLM is going to be much less expensive in the winter. Just b/c it's on the water and more popular in the summer doesn't mean it's out for winter, right? You'll get a better deal in the winter because of that!

Re: quick ? regarding budget, realistic or unrealistic
you totally can do it but i'll be the little raincloud that tells you its kinda hard and requires some forethought and some creativity.
I have a tight budget and I would suggest writing it all out even the silliest little things like postage for your invites and rsvps down to hair trials (if you are to do one), what you will wear (if you have to get a special bra) etc. The more inclusive your budget it, the easier the planning goes as it eliminates some vendors and opens doors to others. Also, make sure you keep a running tally of what you have spent.... making a practice invite, if you plan to DIY, still costs money.
Also, if you plan on doing certain things, like a videographer, just be clear that certain things you just cannot get for cheap. My FH and I killed ourselves looking at certain vendors only to realize cheap, good and easy rarely go hand in hand...
In the immortal words of Rob Schneider 'YOU CAN DO IT!' just plan plan plan.

totally possible!!! i had a wedding for 170 people on a Saturday afternoon in February and we spent $20K. the $20 K included our honeymoon, ALL vendors (band, videographer, photo, limos, flowers, etc.) , the entire reception, etc. etc.
