Quitting my job!!

Ahhhhhh i can not stand to work here anymore. i have just about had it and its just not worth all this stress. so i have decided that i am quitting my job and i am going to give them my 2 weeks notice today. which is the proper way of doing it?
1. handing them a letter explaining my reasons.
or
2. just telling them verbally?
want to make sure i do it the right away. i was just going to talk to them about it.
how would you girls do it?

Put it into writing, just basically saying that you are resigning. You dont have to give reasoning in the letter though. Make sure you have a copy for your boss and for HR....HTH and GL

STRONGLY agree with this, you should NOT put specific reasons in the letter. Vague is better! GL and congratulations!!

DO NOT give them a letter with your REASONS for leaving. That's a big NO!

Give them verbal notice - and you don't need to explain your reasons, though you can if they ask. Then give a letter of resignation, stating only 'Effective ____, I am resigning from my position as ______.' That's it. That's all they need for your HR file.

Whatever you do, keep it professional. You never know when you will need a reference -- whether or not you think you need it now.

Even vague is unnecessary. ALL a letter of resignation needs to state is:

'I am resigning from my position as ____. My last day will be _____.'

or

'I am resigning from my position as ______, effective ____.'

You should never put any additional info in a letter of resignation.

Write them a letter stating that you are resigning as of the effective date. Make one copy for them and for HR if necessary and keep one for yourself. You should not put down why you are resigning--you are not obligated to tell them that.

Good luck!

Yup!

ETA - I forgot to say it, but the letter should be addressed to your supervisor and HR should be copied.

Definitely don't put any reasons why you're leaving, they have no reason to know and legally they can't ask you. If you signed a non-disclosure agreement or a contract that says you won't go to a competitor blah blah blah, then they can ask if you are going to work for a competitor.

Good luck!

I agree, don't put any reasons in writing for leaving. It's better not to burn any bridges.

Congrats on deciding to quit your job! I'm sure you feel very relieved right now! I quit my old job last year because I wasn't happy there, and it turned out to be the best thing I could have done!
