Qyestions for the Rabbi??

Re: Qyestions for the Rabbi??
He may ask you if you want a bedekking(sorry for the probable spell error). I would ask if he will supply the ketubah(they usually do) nd the glass/light bulb for the breaking.
Re: Qyestions for the Rabbi??
I would ask him if he has any rules about your dress or the rings...
Re: Qyestions for the Rabbi??
I was told already not to ask about the dress because it is strapless and he will tell me I can't wear it and I am NOT getting a different dress. It is the don't ask, don't tell policy but my veil covers my shoulders. I will ask about the rings. I have a shawl that came with the dress just in case I have to wear something on my shoulders but I don't like what it looks like.
Re: Qyestions for the Rabbi??
Definately ask about the rings, we were told no cuts in them. As for the dress, I was told that as long as the veil covers it and it is tasteful then it is fine. I am also not telling the rabbi my gown is off the shoulder. I asked that he use Husband and wife not man and wife, etc. Good luck. What rabbi are you using?
Re: Qyestions for the Rabbi??
We are using the rabbi from the temple where I am getting Married. Rabbi Schwartz. So if I can't have cuts that means I cant get the rings engraved before the ceremony? We will have little etchings in our rings so I guess that means they are not good. Is it ok to borrow people's rings from our family? Don't we have to give a dollar for it or something like that to make it worth something? Where are you getting married, who is your rabbi? I really hope he doesn't freak about my dress, it is strapless without anything on my shoulders but the veil is covering. It is a ceremony, not a religious service so I thought it was ok to wear it. I hope so, what is he going to do, tell me no, there is no wedding with everyone sitting there?? lol

Re: Qyestions for the Rabbi??
Our rabbi also insisted that we use plain, precious metal wedding bands. They can be platinum, gold, or silver, but must not have any etching, cuts, or diamonds.
Re: Qyestions for the Rabbi??
Mistyeyed can we borrow them from people (the rings?)
Re: Qyestions for the Rabbi??
Metphan I will let you know. We have the meeting at 8pm. I will add your questions to my never ending list of questions lol.
Re: Qyestions for the Rabbi??
I'm meeting the Rabbi for the first time on Wednesday and had these exact questions. I knew about the wedding ring and will be borrowing a friend of mine's that is just a solid metal band. I'll put on the real wedding ring after the ceremony.
Re: Qyestions for the Rabbi??
since we really don't have any sort of rehearsal you should also ask the order of how everyone walks down the aisle.
Re: Qyestions for the Rabbi??
Yes, you can use other people's rings...he said that is very common! Just switch them after the ceremony.
Re: Qyestions for the Rabbi??
abc, how'd the meeting with the Rabbi go? Did he tell you anything out of the ordinary?
Re: Qyestions for the Rabbi??
It went very well. It was weird, I thought he was conservative bordering on orthodox and some of his things are that way and some are not. My ketubah needs to be orthodox or conservative text but he doesn't do the walking around the groom 3 or seven times. I can do it if I want to but they don't usually. He said the music to walk down to is usually jewish songs (I have no idea what that means) but he really did not give me a suggestion and said the band would know. When I asked about the rings he said it didn't matter if they were engraved or had etching on them which I thought was weird. He said for the Ketubah the witnesses had to be men who could sign their jewish name or else he and the cantor would do it and that the seven prayers were not read by family members that the cantor would do that. That is all that I remember right now.
