Rabbi's

Hello....Just wanted to know...what types of questions I should be asking the Rabbi's that I call up to do our wedding? I am calling one today that was recommended to us from one of my mothers friends.
Thanks

I have no idea, but would love to find out the answer! That's one of the things that I'm most worried about - finding the right rabbi to marry us, especially since we're not really that religious and we already live together. I'm also looking for references for a rabbi that is lively and not too expensive, so if you like this rabbi, I'd love it if you could share the info! Thanks!

I will share the info with everyone as soon as I meet the rabbi. Supposedly my mothers friends daughter used him for an interfaith wedding which is what I will need him for and she said that he was very nice and very sweet.

One question that came up for me when I went to buy a ketubah was what type of ketubah the Rabbi or Cantor wanted. I never realized there are different types but they have different wordings and more conservative rabbi's might want a specific wording. Good Luck!

I didn't know that rabbis have a say in the Ketubah. I want an egalitarian Ketubah, and chances are, we're going to be married by a reform rabbi, so hopefully that won't be a problem. There are so many beautiful Ketubahs out there to choose from, though, that I can't imagine how long it's going to take to decide what we want.

The rabbi will probably have an opinion about the ketubah but if you're looking for a reformed rabbi, you shouldn't have a problem with an egalatarian ketubah. We're getting married by my fiance's uncle who is an Orthodox rabbi in Israel and we have to use the orthodox text.

You may want to ask the rabbi if they have an opinion of dress-code for the bridal party. Most reformed rabbis don't care if shoulders are covered, especially if you're not getting married in a temple, but you may want to ask anway.

Since most wedding officients have the ability to talk a lot during a ceremony, you may want to be very specific about how long you want the service to be and what you want him to talk about.

Good luck!

Re: Rabbi's

i just met with ours and he basically told us what we needed: an acceceptable ketubah to him. kosher wine, the rings with no diamonds, an acceptable chuppah, and the line up. oh, and he said that if we are having a program only he is allowed to give us the information to put in it about the ceremony.
