Every 2-3 years. Alot of vets say every year, but I have read up on it, and spoke to Murphy's vet and they say every year is over-vaccinating the dog.

Re: Rabies Vaccine
I think there are two different vaccinations available, one is renewed every other year, the other is every 5.

Wendy - EVERY YEAR??
I hope he gets the one every 5 years! OK now I am worried that Gizmo is going to get Rabies. I have to get him to the vet ASAP

Re: Rabies Vaccine
The tag your dog gets when it is vaccinated is dated with year because it is an ANNUAL vaccine ...
Hershey never had a rabies shot when we lived in Queens until probably a year or two before we moved in with Tim & Bailey because she was now outside in the *country*.
Vaccination LawThere has been a recent change in the state law and all dogs, cats and domesticated ferrets are required to be vaccinated against rabies by the time they are 4 months of age (they can be vaccinated at 3 months of age - but no younger than that). The law also changed requiring all dogs in New York State must be licensed by the time they are 4 months of age and that license must be renewed each year - in order to license you must have a current rabies vaccination for your dog. This went into effect on November 20, 2002.

Re: Rabies Vaccine
Thanks Wendy - I didn't know that! I tried searching online and didn't find anything, thats why I posted here. Gizmos tag doesn't have a date on it, just the name of the vet and a number.

Re: Rabies Vaccine
Is the annual vaccine just a booster? If he is late getting it (which I think he is) is there going to be any problems? I have to find a new vet too

Re: Rabies Vaccine
Has anyone used Petco for vaccines? I can update them all for $40 there.. or else I have to find a new vet and it will be even longer before he gets it.

Re: Rabies Vaccine
Who was your vet when you were in KP? Maybe they could recommend someone.
And again, Hershey didn't get the rabies shot until she was probably 8 or 9 yrs old, so I don't think the wait should make a difference (from the vaccination perspective ...).

Re: Rabies Vaccine
Gizmo has been to so many different vets over the years And I don't really have records. But I know he hasn't been to the vet in 2 years and he didn't get shots the last time. I think I am going to get his those shots at Petco, then find a good vet around here.
