Racial Comment...

Someone just made a very unnecessary racial comment. Me and this other girl who sits in the front office with me were saying goodnight to this jewish girl in my office who has to be home for passover I believe and we asked her if the other girl who sits next to her and is also jewish if she was leaving and she told us that she was staying until 5. So the girl who sits next to me said 'Oh I thought you all had to be home early'. She didn't mean that in a harmful way but this girl that was leaving was like 'That's a racial thing to say'. So they start having this 'discussion' about racial comments and then as she was getting in the elevator she goes 'don't be jealous of us, we killed jesus'

I could not believe my ears! My friend that sits next to me was like 'did she just say what I think she did, oh wait till tomorrow morning i'm gonna call her a murderer'.

oh.. that discussion is not headed anywhere good.

Wow!! My FI is jewish so I have heard it too!! Even from my own family!!

I just had a racial experience (i think my first one) last weekend. I teach Science discovery classes on Saturdays for minorities. I had a extra group of kids last time because their teacher was late. We were doing a really interesting experiment and the other students wanted to see the out come, but when the teacher showed up she wouldn't let them complete the lab. The students wouldn't move so she turns to them and while looking at me she says 'There is a big white person waiting for you in a jail some where' I was so shocked!! I asked the students do you really feel this way about people who are only different by their skin color?

It's disgusting to say something like that. Every religion is different and should be respected. If those words ever come out of her lips again in the office I am telling my boss, who is also jewish and i'm sure wouldn't appreciate her saying something so disrespectful!

I don't understand why people have to be so ignorant!

Tracey I can't believe that comment that was made to you! What is wrong with people! This girl was like 'don't be jealous of us'. I was like 'we have nothing to be jealous of, I am proud of own religion'.

My reaction to this clearly depends on who is saying it.

I dont think this is Racial as much as bias statement or Radical comment?

As an Agnostic.. I think if it was NOT a Jewish person saying this then Why would they say it at all. If it WAS a Jewish person who said it and Im not Jewish (which Im not) then I don't think I'd care.

What I would feel is a bit lost. What in God’s name would make you say something so .. well stupid? What do you have to gain by that? I’m not sure I’d report it cause as a Non-Jew it wouldn’t make me free uncomfortable for a Jew to insult their own religion. Knowing me, I’d probably ask.. “why did you say that?” If you report it, wouldn’t it sound like ‘hearsay’?

Am I Jealous that they are allowed to go home earlier than me due to JUST their religion? Nope, but I do fine THAT action in itself offensive/selective and unfair. No special treatment should be afforded to any group of people specifically for their religious beliefs. If you want to let them go home early, everyone should have that option to.

My old office in Texas at one time used to allowed Good Friday as a day off for Easter, since most of San Antonio did the same. But I’m Agnostic and thought it was pretty stupid but hey it was a free day off so I never said a word. But they changed their rules. The day is free off for everyone, if you want, or you can work that day and get an extra vacation day. Same goes for Fiesta Friday, the last day of the Fiesta festivities. You can work the whole day and get a half-day off later or go ahead and leave early.

I’d let it go, if it were me. But then again.. *shrug* it’s not me and I am a strange one.

The girl that said it is Jewish and she said it in a boastful way like when someone brags that they killed someone. I find it offensive because I am catholic and I don't appreciate that comment. It's like saying she killed someone dear to me. I love Jesus and believe in him and that is my religion. No I can't shrug this off. This isn't over...not by a long shot. Let her even open her mouth tomorrow morning.

Why she would even make such a comment is stupid! It's even more dumb to say it because she is Jewish. Is that something to be proud of saying???????

The best part is that she isn't even a faithful jewish...she's not that religious. she has told us so a couple of times. no wonder she made that comment, cuz she has no respect for her religion as well.

But she was leaving work early for Passover?? Seems like she is Jewish only when its conveient for her. Like Catholics who only go to Mass on Christmas and Easter. I don't understand some people....

I think we all have one of those people where we work, no I don't mean Jewish, I mean that annoying, say whatever the hell they want to whoever they want, kind of people. I say let her have it tomorrow whether or not she says something to you or anyone else.
