Just wondering what everyone thought of this idea?
We joked about my sister having rain dates, because the dates of her kids parties (in June) have DOWNPOURED for at least the past 2 years... and I thought in the back of my mind 'its REALLY not a bad idea!' and I was just speaking to a mommy I know, and she's having a rain date! (the next day) and if THAT day rains, then they move it into the house.
It will be an early Oct party, hopefully in the backyard...but if it rains, although we plan to rent a tent, Im sure it will be moved indoors...
Would it strike you as strange if you got a bday invite with a rain date? Will our RSVP's be confusing?
Thanks for any feedback

Nope I think a rain date is a great idea... but if you are having a tent do you really think its necessary?

Re: Rain Date for Birthday Party ?
I think it's a toughie. I got a shower invite with a rain date and I thought it was strange. It rained that day and the hostess got a million phones calls asking if it was cancelled. It wasnt. They couldnt cancel all the food so how could they do a rain date? So on your end, if food and a cake are being ordered, you cant cancel that stuff the morning of the party. And for your guests, your basically asking people to be available 2 different dates. Some people might not be able to keep 2 dates open. I'd opt for having it rain or shine and moving it indoors if necessary.

Re: Rain Date for Birthday Party ?
Liz, you read my mind exactly. I think for those exact reasons, Im leaning towards Not doing the rain date after all... What if it drizzles, is that considered cancelled? and I pictured the million phone calls and then people not being able to keep 2 dates open...
Thanks for the feedback everyone. I think the tent will have to save us, and the good ol indoors. (but pray for good weather!!)
Liz-what are you doing for Lukie ???

Re: Rain Date for Birthday Party ?
I agree with Liz too about all the phone calls you would get. That’s the only downside I would see…..Actually you would have to make the phone calls too if you had to cancel in case of rain. So either way it would be too much for you whether you made the calls or you got them.
Plus it is October and it just may be a bit chilly outside anyways… you just never know with this crazy weather we have. If it was in june, july or august then yeah maybe I would do it. Who cares if people have to reschedule John Anthony is worth rescheduling anybody’s schedule!!! LOL He’s too adorable!!!!!!!!!

Re: Rain Date for Birthday Party ?
On the practical side, I'd have to say I agree w all of Liz's reasons/advice.
But, on the 'Mommy' side, I just wanted to say Anna, you poor thing - As if it's not confusing enough to plan all the decisions around the party...but to make yourself crazy worrying about this! It will all be fine, rain or not - if I could get through Paul's party (having JUST moved into the house) you can get through JA's with no problems!
