Has anyone been to a concert on Randalls Island? I'm going to the Dave Matthews Band Concert and want to know if we can bring in a picnic, booze, etc.? Thanks!

I went to see DMB there last year & going to the concert on Sunday. From what I remember - they were inconsistent with bag checks, etc. People brought it blankets & stuff to sit on since it was all open without seating, but from what I remember food & drinks weren't permitted inside the park. They kinda had a mock-woodstock sorta area with live bands, food & drinks, etc. Dave didn't come on until dusk. Def bring sunscreen since there's not much shade! Have a great time - he always puts on such an amazing show.

i was there saturday for Ozzfest...i brought in water bottles and they never checked my bag but it was also hot as a muther out so they were pretty lax on that part
they shouldn't stop you from bringing in a blanket but if they find booze on you they'll probably make you throw it out...they did that to other people that came in with me trying to bring coolers and food...they made them go back to their car to put the cooler away

i have been there a few times, but years ago for all the lollapolooza fests. i think concerts are pretty strict about you bringing in your own food and drink.

i went there years ago - like 10 years ago- so i really don't remember, the one thing i do remember was it was to see Pearl Jam and it took us 2 hours to get out of the parking area, i hope its better now

I saw Dave & BNL there last year - GREAT show. There was paid parking lot adjacent to the park. There were a decent amount of tailgaters doing their own thing. I don't recall seeing anyone really patrolling or cracking down on them.

I also saw Dave there last year (and then my FH proposed the next day!). The cops were big a$$holes to us about grilling in the parking lot. They rode up and down the aisles on their horses checking. We managed to still grill a little since it was the only food we had, but we had to be sneaky and do it out of the trunk. You can drink in the parking lot, but bring Solo cups, because you cant walk around with cans or bottles.
Then going into the concert, you can only bring in a blanket to sit on....no booze or food.

FYI - its very, very dusty there!!! Dont wear anything that you care about getting dirty - i have gone to Vans Warped Tour the last 2 years there and it was so dusty people had to wear bandannas on their mouths and noses! We were blowing dirt out of our noses for days after - its so gross....
And no - no water or anything else can be brought in there! some of the nicer security people told me to 'hide' my bottles deep in my bag so they wouldnt see!

oh yes...i forgot about the dirt and dust. Definitely wear something you are prepared to possibly thow out after....and you will DEFINITELY be blowing dirt out of your noise for days.
with that said, though, it was an awesome concert and i do always love outsdoor venues.

Went to Guinness Flagh (spelling?) there and it is SO dusty. FH and I were disgusting by the time we left. And don't leave your blanket around. We were by the stage, sitting on our blanket. FH decides to go get a drink and after 10 minutes I get impatient and try to find him. well needless to say our blanket was DESTROYED, lol! Like trampled on a million times.

I'm going to that concert on Sunday-we have a group of 20 people. Randalls Island is a lot of fun. I went to Warped Tour there 8 years ago we all got sooooo dirty-it was all dirt.

This year Warped Tour is at Nassau Colliseum parking lot - wonder what thats gonna be like????

OMG!! I went to see DMB there last year, both nights and FH and I remember it as the 'Dust Bowl' It was so gross, but fun. We drank in the parking lot and saw one or two cops walking around both days who didn't say anything.
I'm going on Sunday this year!!! I can't wait, i feel like i bought my tickets a year ago! We will probably drink in the parking lot for a little bit and eat heros or something because the beers inside were real expensive and there were HUGE lines for beer and food.
I'm so excited!!! It was in the back of my mind that it was this weekend, but I wasn't really thinking of it, and you girls got me all giddy now!! BTW, Dave Matthews is on my List. You know, the list like on friends that Ross had of people that you can hook up with! I love him
