RANDOM QUESTION

RANDOM QUESTION

Hi all!!! Congrats to all the 2013 Brides!!!

I have a VERY random question...

My younger sister-in-law is turning Sweet 16 this year and having a very fancy party at The Sterling. My husband and I are really not sure what to give her as a gift...let me explain why...

Usually when we go to any party, we give what we think the cost is per plat and a little more depending how close we are to the guests of honor...this is what I was taught growing up...HOWEVER, I am hesitant to do this for this Sweet 16 for a few reasons...

1) I have no idea how much is charged per plate at a catering hall for Sweet 16's

2) My husband and I aren't that close with her, she is pretty anti-social at family functions. On her phone, in her room etc.

AND

3) (I hope you don't judge me too harshly for saying this...) She is spoiled and gets everything she wants. She is never told NO and very disrespectful to her parents...hence the huge party my Father and Mother-in-law really can't afford...

If you are still reading this...what would you do in this situation?

I would give what you and your FH are comfortable with. If you want to at least cover your plates then either you or DH should ask your in-laws how much each plate costs.

Honestly, I wouldn't give cash or a check. I would pick out some sort of gift or a gift card.

She's not paying for it, and the gift wouldn't go to her parents, so I don't think you need to 'cover the cost' of the plate. Give her what you feel is right. Maybe $100 for the two of you? If that's not enough, maybe that plus a small token? I remember getting cash, jewelry, etc.

I agree with this. Maybe a savings bond or stock? Something for the future. Otherwise a moderately nice piece of jewelry or a nice Sephora gift card!

Karin and vppjzv the gift is definitely not going to her parents...and I know her...she would spend whatever money we give her on something very frivolous like clothes or shoes (which she has a crap load of already, and daddy buys her as soon as she asks for it)...I would rather not give her cash but maybe a gift card is not a bad idea...$100 gift card somewhere? What do you think?

I was trying to think back to my sweet 16 and the only gift that stands out was a charm necklace, but you said she has a ton of stuff and probably already gets anything she asks for. Maybe a gift certificate for a spa day (mani/pedi/massage) or if there is anything she collects.

RANDOM QUESTION - Long Island Weddings

2015 sterling bride crasher.....
I.think I can help.....
First the sterling has prices for those all inclusive packages on the website. The most expensive package us $7k for 100 people.
Second I have some family like her too so I.understand!! I like the others stock idea.does she have a Pandora bracelet? You can get her charms. What about tickets to something? Is she getting a car, car wash and gas gift card??
I got allot of jewelry and cash from what I remember, though my sweet 16was 15 years ago and at a knights of CColumbus most people have $25.....
I hope this helped a little!!!

Honestly in this situation I would probably do a savings bond. That way she cant cash it right away and it will double what you spent once it matures anyway.

I dont think they double anymore? we bought one a couple years ago and i thought it cost more than half and took more than 8 years (now 16?) to mature. whatever the exacts were, it wasnt like the old days! lol

When I was 16, all I cared about was makeup LOL so I say Sephora, However, if her dad buys her all her makeup and clothes, then I would get her a makeover or a facial at one of the poshy spas. OR get a couple of them, so she can go with a friend.

I think a gift card is fine. I remember the standard gift being $50 when I was 16, but that was over a decade ago! I would think $100 would be good.

I agree Sephora is a nice choice or maybe Bloomingdales or Nordstrom? If her parents buy her everything it basically IS a gift for her parents....saves them $100 off her next shopping spree!

I think a spa day would be perfect, a nice piece of jewelry or a gift card to her favorite store.

I would give her cash & let her do what she wants with it. You never know, maybe the parents are going to take some money and save it for her.

I am clearly horrible at navigating their website LOL...thank you for the info!! It is good to know we aren't the only ones with family like her.

I will definitely ask if she has a Pandora bracelet...charm is a great idea...

When I turned Sweet 16 I got ALOT of cash, but I saved like 3/4 of it. I know she isn't going to do the same so charm or gift card DEF GONNA DO!!

THANK YOU SO MUCH!
