For those of you who don't live with their FH... what are you going to do after the wedding? Are you going to buy a house shortly after the wedding? Are you going to rent something? When are you going to do either or?.... before or after the wedding??
I know this is a random question coming from me because I live with FH, but I'm just curious. Lately FH and I are getting antsy about buying a house. We want one NOW!! We've been renting for 2 years and while we love our apt. we're getting so sick of living there and just plain renting.
So a little spinoff question to the first question... For all of you who already live with FH, do you plan on continuing to rent after the wedding? How long after the wedding do you plan on buying a house?
And do you all plan on staying on LI???

welll i love these ?'s depending on what comes about... i want to buy something i dont care if its a condo,townhouse, co-op, or house. Since we dont live together my parents are making us an apt. in their new home we move in Jan 15th. and FH and My dad are going to build the apt. (really its just a kitchen) and our plan is to stay there for as long as possible since were just paying for what we use my parents asked us for 450 a month (i kissed their feet when they said that) that way we can save and save and save so we can buy something. So were hoping we can buy something in a year or 2 from the wedding. depending on my job we might stay here on LI or head to westchester area. Since hes in NYC we can only go so far.

FH and I were actually just dicussing this situation this weekend. Originally we were hoping to put a down payment on a house with the gifts from our wedding (since my parents are giving us our wedding). BUT i do not want to come home from our honeymoon with nowhere to go!!!!!! SOOOOOO (ill only be 23 when we get married) and we decided to wait a little for kids so there is no need for a big house right away. We concluded that over the summer we are going to look for a condo or co-op this way we can settle in before the wedding, and come home a ENJOY living together...rather than living with mommy and daddy for another month!!!
NO newlywed couple should EVER have to live with either inlaws!!! (IMO) LoL

your not kidding my parents are the Sh!t...lol they're moving cuz they cant afford the house we currently live in and they ahve been here for 25 years. so when they were house hunting they were actually looking for a place they could make an apt to help us since they cant help much for the wedding itself they said if we can do this for u we'd really like to. i couldnt thank them enough to even think about it. it was all their idea!
and no we dont want to live with our parents but its all we can afford to do right now better then getting married and have to live seperately... picture that!

ditto! We both still live and home and will continue to do so until a few months before the wedding (trying to save as much as possible since we are paying for the wedding on our own.)
We're going to start off in the smallest/cheapest apartment possible in either queens or nassau and then get a house as soon as possible afte that.

Yeah, we're starting to feel the same way. It definitely has its ups and downs. We're just ready to buy, but we won't be able to do that until after the wedding

FH and I plan on renting an apartment about a month before we get married, this way we can fix it up and it will be mostly done (if not all done) and ready for us to live in when we get home from the honeymoon.
As far as the night of the wedding, we plan on getting a hotel room in the city or by the airport before we leave for our honeymoon the next day/night.

FH lives in a apartment by himself and I live at home with parents. We are staying this way as long as possible this way we can save $$ for the wedding.
When i graduate next semester if i get a good job we will save up some more to see what we can do next (rent or buy condo) this way we are moved in a few months prior to the wedding. I will be living in the same town as i am currently in. We love lindenhurst!

my parents are making an apt upstairs for us to live rent free they are making a half bath into a full bath and making a little kitchen area - then we have a bedroom and a living room. . .it will be cute but pretty small
after living there for a year or two we are going to start the house hunting - houses in our area ( where we want to stay) are ridiculously expensive so we need some time to save up for a down payment esp. since we are paying for the entire wedding ourselves
the situation is a little stinky but as a friend pointed out - we can be newlyweds twice! once right after we get married and then again after we move out on our own!
the night of the wedding we are staying at a hotel though LOL and we will be taking LOTS of weekend trips those first few years!

FH & I lived together for 3 years... Now we live apart but for a few reasons...
1. $ave $$ for a down payment 2. I was getting all if we live together now what is going to be different after the wedding...
WE plan on purchasing our house in April of 2008 (closing completed)
moving in & then in June of 2008

We're locked into our NYC lease until April 2008. Josh graduates in Boston in May 2008 and our wedding on LI (duh) is in June 2008. So, I don't know what we're going to do (we are 100% moving back to NY - whether its NYC or Long Island).
I don't know if we should sign onto another year long lease in NYC (throwing money away on rent! ), or if we should look for a house so we can build equity. But I don't see how we're going to have time to find/buy a house while he's graduating/looking for jobs, and while we're getting married at the same time.

FH and I live together now and while I would love for us to have a house, we just can't since we're paying for the wedding. Plus, planning a wedding is stressful enough - I can't imagine house hunting at the same time (my nerves are pretty fragile - I'd be curled up in a ball sobbing and muttering like Rain Man for a month if I had to do both at the same time). So, I'm imagining that we'll keep renting till about 6 months or a year after the wedding, and then look for a place to buy, probably out of the NY area (I've lived in the city all my life - except for a year in London - and I'm ready to pack up and move to the country! Somewhere small, quiet, away from noise and traffic... ahh, the dream...)

i love your ?s too! i like reading what other ppl have in mind cuz sometimes ppl say things i never even thought of! its so great.
FH and I like our apt...so we're going to stay there for at least a yr after the wedding...just because i think itll be too hectic to look for a new place (regardless of it being an apt, condo, co-op, house, etc)...after the wedding i want to just relax for a little while and enjoy being married!!!!!
but i would like to move into a starter house a yr or 2 after the wedding...cuz we'll have been in our apt for 4-5 yrs by then...time to move on!
i think it also depends on where our jobs take us and how much $ we're making at the time...if we can have the $ for the house sooner, we'll do it sooner!
and yes, we will be staying in li pref. the north shore b/c that's where fh is from.

i completely and totally agree i would be the same waY!
thats one of the other advantages of the apt upstairs - we can set it up as early as possible and get that out of the way as soon as we want and we wont have to rush around at the last minute ( lol i have to think POSITIVELY!)
