I'm doing a paper on stem cell research for my bio class. Up until I started the paper I was against it, but now that I'm finding out all the benefits, it seems like we should be taking advantage of this technology. They discovered that adults have stem cells, not just a fetus and those cells can me used to create spinal tissue.
My sister has MS to think that stem cell research can keep her on her feet for life is a comfort.
Just curious how everyone else feels.

Definitely for it, after working for a very long time with people suffering from Parkinson's Disease, I realized all the benefits of stem cell research!

100% for it, without a doubt. They can also be taken from cord blood. And my opinion on the whole embryo thing - they are taken from embryos, not fetuses- that these are embryos put into 'storage' so couples that might have fertility problems in the future can use them. What happens if these couples never 'use' these embroys? Wouldn't be much better for them to be used to help people than to be disposed of?

100% - it affected me personally- my Mom got a stem cell transplant of her own stem cells- however- she realy needed fresh ones- but was unable to have them
she lost her battle b/c of this- I can not stress enough how important this issue is

Absolutely for it.
My father suffered a massive stroke back in 1998. He cannpt speak conversationally and is partially paralyzed... stem cell research is his only hope.
What our politicians need to realize is that it would cost less $$ to take care of my father (SSDI, home health aid, etc.) if they would encourage stem cell research. He, along with millions of others, would have much greater quality of life.
Funny, if the politicians had to live his life for one day or take care of a family member like him, I think they would change their minds.

Re: Random Survey - Stem Cell Reserach
There is a huge difference between embryionic stem cell research and adult stem cell research. I think you need to make that distinction in your paper and when you ask people's opinion of it.
Many of the people who are against the first one (because they feel that life should not be tampered with and that abortion is wrong, etc) are for the second one, because it does not use an unborn life....

Re: Random Survey - Stem Cell Reserach
I think there need to be added options on the poll.I am in favor of the research itself, but I do hope that scientists can use technology that does not require the harvesting of fetal stem cells.
