Random thank you/etiquette question

Random thank you/etiquette question

I'm finishing up the thank yous for the stragglers, and I'm stuck with this random issue.

My cousin from England sent a card over with her mother for us. The card had a check, but it was written out from her own English checking account so the currency is pounds, not dollars. I won't be able to cash it anywhere, and it's not a big amount or anything, so I'm fine with just thanking her for it and not doing anything with the check, but to save her from a puzzling bank account, should I send it back to her and let her know that I can't cash it? I don't want to seem ungrateful or that I'm asking for a new gift...

I'm really stuck on this one...

Honestly, I would let the person know that you can not cash the check over here. Have you checked every place to make sure they can't cash it????

You don't want her to have a checking account have that as an outstanding check!

Why can't you cash the check - they might hold the check for a little longer than normal but the bank should be able to cash it or let you deposit it?

i would look into why you can't deposit it. there should be something that can be done.

i would DEFINITELY NOT send it back.

I wouldn't send it back. I would definitely thank the person for their generosity. I would also check with your bank to see if they can cash it. If they can't, I would let the person who sent it know that you're having difficulty cashing it.

I wouldn't send it back. I think there might be some kind of bank you can cash it.
If not, I would just keep it, and not cash it. Do you even know what it is equivelant to in american $?

It would be just under $40, but by the time I pay any fees to process it, there wouldn't be much left. Which is why I'm not overly concerned about cashing it, I just don't want her to wonder what happened with it.
