Random vent/question about Thank You cards.

Original post by AmandaLynn04

So, we're getting our TY's from the photographer. I kind of want the style where the pic is on the front of the card -- and the inside is blank so that I can write a message myself in each card.

I just HATE the preprinted thank you -- it's impersonal.

I feel like if you are taking the time to come to our wedding (some traveling from far away) the least I could do is write a nice personal message to everyone in their thank you card.

How do you girls feel about it?

i agree!!! although it WILL be a PITA to write them all out

Yeah, I agree! I wrote ALL of our e-party thank yous (since we only got gifts from my side of the family/my friends) and wrote a personal non-generic thing in each -- and I sent them out same-day until we ran out of thank yous. People actually called my parents and commented on how nice it was to receive thoughtful and prompt thank yous.

I want FH to split the task with me for wedding thank yous but I'm afraid I'll have to write him out a few generic fill in the blanks to use for inspiration... plus his handwriitng is kind of bad... .

Our eparty was March 11th and I had my thank-you's out before the end of the month. It isone of my pet peeves. The last thank-you I received was from my mom's best friends daughter and I thought she wrote a nice, personal message in mine... then I saw my moms, my aunts and my grandma's and we all had the same thing written in ours... WORD FOR WORD!!! I was like, um, wow. But, to each their own!!!

Ahhhhh that's one of my biggest fears! I wrote similar things in some but made sure to make them noticably different for people who could potentially compare.

well, there is only so much you can write, so i understand they will be similar. I am sure after writing over 100 thank-yous mine will be similar, too. But we think she wrote the same for everyone...

I'm OK with it. Say you barely know the person, you write 'thank you so much for your generous gift and sharing in our special day.' what more could you possibly write? I think it just takes up space, you know? You should still write something but if it's short and sweet, the card doesn't look so empty...

ETA: I'm not getting them b/c I usually write funny stuff. Like, one friend, a cop, got us an electric knife for our eparty and I told him 'thank you so much for the electric knife, it will be useful when Alfonse pisses me off, and then I'll have to use YOU.' something along those lines...

That's my biggest fear. Writing a generic message and people comparing and making fun of me.

Well, maybe not my biggest fear -- but, that's why I want to write them out myself -- even if it takes a while -- I want everyone to have something somewhat personal.

I agree... it's just that personalization that goes a long way, KMIW?

PS, did you get your photo's and video? Joey said you should have gotten it yesterday or today the latest. how exciting!!

I have to say though, I've gotten plenty of the TYs with the preprinted words, but the bride has almost always written something personal as well...
and...I guess I'm in the minority, but I ALWAYS keep the photo! I have a whole scrapbook of just all the weddings we've been to...and I hate when there's no picture!
but, as for what we're doing, it's a part of our photographer's package to design the thank you, for us to get ourselves off of shutterfly or kodak...

I agree! I've received many thank you's... preprinted and then with an additional hand written message- sometimes on front/ sometimes on back depending where there is room. I actually liked this & have also kept friends/family thank yous on the fridge for awhile. After a perioud of time, they go into the memory box.

Just a warning, my FH helped with our e-party thank yous. He helped write a bunch, and then I asked him to stamp them and mail them. My lesson was learned quick when he mailed them and forgot to stamp them!!

I agree with you. We are not gettin a photo package so we are gonna make our cards (probably through Snapfish or CVS or something) - and i will want to hand write our thank yous.

I will be writing them out. I am not sur about the pre-printed part. If we do it will be standard and then I will write a note in them.

Danielle it is so funny that you mention that you and your mom and gma had the same exact message from someone -- that happened to me and my family. All of my siblings and I had the same exact message and my parents had an extra line added probably because they gave more money hahahaha!
