Honestly... I know it is going to create some 'bad' reactions... I don't feel I have to pay anyone because their boss is not paying them enough.
This is not my problem!
I agree...however, the service industry disagrees....and most people happily tip as long as they received good service.

Re: rant about tipping
Almost every single one of my vendors is the owner of the business. My limo contract specifically says NOT to tip the owner (my driver). At this point I have no intention of tipping owners (with one very notable exception). When we return from our HM, any vendor that went above and beyond will be compensated.

I totally agree! I cant stand the way wedding vendors milk us. Why are these vendors asking us 'is this a wedding?' when i call them?
So what if it's a wedding? Does my saying it's a wedding mean I get extra special treatment? Or jsut a hefty bill? :P
And you want me to tip on top of your exorbitant prices? No thanks! I don't get tipped at work for being helpful and nice to my coworkers. :P

Re: rant about tipping
It's crazy what they get away w/. I have been a server in resaturants and RH and I have never seen anything like it. As much as we work for tips, the suggested tip amounts are a little out of control.

Absolutely not! I agree with you 100%! I tell FH all the time, after realizing JUST how many people I need to tip for doing their jobs, I am going to put a tip jar in my office at work! I mean I do a good job and work hard...I guess I deserve a tip too!

I agree...especially being obligated to tip. Tipping is for exceptional service only...and should be at the tippers discretion.

Re: rant about tipping
I agree with everyone. When someone says wedding to a vendor they see $$$$ signs. Especially limousine companies.
Even though I agree, I do plan on tipping my photographer, videographer (they are with us all day), my limo driver and maitre d'.
HTH...

Re: rant about tipping
I will tip, but I wil not go by any suggested amounts - I will tip based on performance - I am having @ 300 people at my wedding that my FH and I are paying for - I will not tip the maitre d based on amount of people which would come out to at least $1000, when we are already paying 18% gratuity

Re: rant about tipping
this was a great thread
i thought i was crazy for being overwhelmed with the tippin.
i mean i am payin a lot per head with tax n tip included...i shouldnt really have to tip more at the RH except for the maitre'd...
i have plenty of time before i have to really think about it. btu im glad you all feel this way. i thought i was being a cheapo
i mean people (guests) tip the waiters n stuff I know I do when i go to a wedding.
so me as a bride shouldnt have to tip the waitstaff... not that my guests are obligated but ...im paying so much already..u kno?
