Rant: Kids or No Kids?

Rant: Kids or No Kids?

So I am here at work and FH calls me and was like 'Honey, I made a list of Invites.' I am like 'Yay! That is great.' So he tells me how many and I asked him who are all these people. And he tells me it's basically Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and their Kids. He said KIDS. I don't want kids at my wedding! So I start yelling at him. I feel bad but his concern is inviting his Cousins with their Kids that are out of towners. He wants some of his relatives to come and is afraid they wouldn't if their kids aren't invited. What should we do? Should we say screw it and invite kids or should we leave out the kids? What are you guys doing? If I invite kids from his side of the family, then that means I have to invite all the kids from my side. Ugh. i don't know what to do!

Sorry you are having that problem

We will have kids, but honestly, it's just the FG, RB, and like 2 of our friends each have a kid. No one else has any yet. We have small families. This isn't a big deal for us.

Perhaps you can compromise and agree on an age limit, say no children under 10. Reason with him and tell him that their parents will get to enjoy themselves more, smaller children are more temperamental, they may leave early, etc.

Thanks for your reply. I was thinking of making an age limit. I was thinking maybe 10-15 the YOUNGEST. We'll see.

this is soooo tough and we're dealing with it too. we are having kids because some of our closest family members couldn't make it if they couldn't bring their children. i didn't want children at the wedding either but i realized we didn't have much of a choice

This might be even more annoying but maybe you can somehow hire a babysitter to stay with all the kids back at the hotel? Or if you find someone responsible - maybe all the aunts and uncles will chip in? I feel like they'll have more fun without their kids there (but I don't have kids, so who knows) and maybe they'll be open to something like this.

I will not have any kids at my wedding. First, I think kids wont have that much fun. Second, the parents wont have as much fun either. Just my opinion.

that's a great point! that's why instituting an age limit policy is soooo difficult!!

Re: Rant: Kids or No Kids?

Personally, i cannot imagine not having kids at my wedding. I've grown up with a huge extended family. My young cousins are in the wedding, and as far as non relatives, the kids will be invited and it's up to them whether or not they want to bring them (or which ones). I don't think it's for me to decide. They are always welcome!

I'm going to have a kid's table with activities, as well as room at the adult tables for them if they choose to sit by their parents.

I attended a wedding last summer where the kids all hung out in a little room at the RH with a TV and games.

I know that attitudes come out when someone else starts deciding who's invited and who isn't. The same situation happens with who is allowed to bring guests. There's always drama.

Good luck!

im having kids at mine. i remember how hard it was for my parents when people would get married and they would have to spend even more money to hire a babysitter to watch us, or find another cousin who wasnt invited to watch us.. especially when the wedding was out of town. it was a pain in the butt.. im giving the parents the option if they want to bring theyre kids, fine, if they want to get someone to watch them, fine.. but with my family the party has never stopped because there were kids present, so it doesnt affect us at all. in fact not inviting the kids never crossed my mind once. i love my little cousins and definitly want them there to share my day.

we're having kids at the weddong, but only because we have so many out of town guests it becomes difficult for them to find baby sitters for the weekend. And most of them will be older, like age 10 to teen.

Re: Rant: Kids or No Kids?

Guys, thanks for all your replies. I think we will end up just inviting them. I would like to have the people there- especially my relatives coming from out of town. I think setting up a table for them with activities may be a great idea.
