Rant: Kids or No Kids?

Original post by flairforfashion

So I am here at work and FH calls me and was like 'Honey, I made a list of Invites.' I am like 'Yay! That is great.' So he tells me how many and I asked him who are all these people. And he tells me it's basically Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and their Kids. He said KIDS. I don't want kids at my wedding! So I start yelling at him. I feel bad but his concern is inviting his Cousins with their Kids that are out of towners. He wants some of his relatives to come and is afraid they wouldn't if their kids aren't invited. What should we do? Should we say screw it and invite kids or should we leave out the kids? What are you guys doing? If I invite kids from his side of the family, then that means I have to invite all the kids from my side. Ugh. i don't know what to do!

im in a similar situation, because i said no children, only my 2 flowergirls, and one is my daughter, and the only reason i put another FG is because its FHs niece, and i really dont mind her being there. other then that i want NOOOO kids. i had FHs mother say 'be surprised if some people dont show up because of that' ...meaning people on her side. which is fine with me. i already had his grand mother say is her great-grandson cant come then she isnt coming........ i looked at them and said 'ok'
i really dont give a **** anyway, im not going to change my rules for MY wedding for anyone, do what YOU and FH want

good for you .... the way I see it only people that are contributing to our wedding can make any suggestions and even then the final decision is OURS. FH's family members haven't said anything yet, but if any of them make comments like that, well that shows they are not really concerned about being there for him in the first place !!!....I doubt however that this will happen, there are not that many kids in his family and the ones there are, will be in the wedding because fh adores them.

Guys, thanks for all your replies. I think we will end up just inviting them. I would like to have the people there- especially my relatives coming from out of town. I think setting up a table for them with activities may be a great idea.

We are not having any kids except the ones who are in our bridal party. The youngest i'm goin is 16. It caused ALOT of problems with my fmil but she's over it now! HTH

How's your classes goin?

I am starting my classes on Satuday Feb 16th- I am taking business law which sounds scary! How about you?

So you're probably in my class! You have to be because that's the only business law class for Saturday. Crazy that you are full time- I can't do that!!

Re: Rant: Kids or No Kids?

I spoke to my dad about kids being at the wedding- he is paying for the wedding and he is 100% against the idea. He thinks it's ridiculous to pay for children to be at a wedding when the parents normally don't have a good time with their children there. I think he has answered my question... Hope FH is alright with this.

NOOOOOO KIDS. Weddings are for adults to celebrate your bond in marriage. Kids could care less.

that is true...99% of the time if i take my daughter to something with adults and no other children, i do not enjoy myself....she gets bored, starts to cry to go home, doesnt know what to do with herself, etc....and makes me not enjoy myself...i would think people wouldnt want to bring a child to a wedding

Re: Rant: Kids or No Kids?

My mom told me that she had added kids of people who aren't family but really close friends of the family to her list. I said that's wayyyy too many kids... there were like 8 of them! They are well behaved don't get me wrong, but I just don't think they would have that much fun and why pay for that? The only kids I plan on having are the FG, 2 RB's and 2 of my first cousins who are teenagers.

I'm certainly not in your position, but we're doing no kids......we do have 2 FGs but they will come to cocktail hr to see everyone and take pics, and then their getting picked up.....their parents want to party!!!

I agree that you should only have kids from the bridal party. Who wants a screaming baby during the ceremony and then you need to pay soooo much for theses kids to NOT eat their chicken fingers. Once you invite one or two kids and make exceptions EVERYONE wants to bring a kid! You gotta say no from the start I think.

Okay- we have a verdict- I went to FH's house tonight and mentioned it to his Mother. She looks at him and goes 'What are you nuts??????? Why the hell would you want kids at your wedding????'

Problem solved. LOL. No kids will be at my wedding. And to think I stressed over this for nothing.
