isn't it rude if you send out an invitation to someone and they try to add a date? after you said no dates??????
then have a friend message you how upset everyone is they can't bring dates and thought they were like family. and why do some people get to bring bf/gf but they can't bring dates?
our guest list is huge..... and we only let people bring bf/gf in serious relationships not just random dates or a bf/gf they got last week lol.

It is a bit rude of someone to add a date to the RSVP especially when they weren't invited with one. I would say I'm sorry but you weren't invited with a date. Our guest list is way over & we don't have anymore room for anyone else.

These ppl who are giving the couple a hard time should be ashamed of themselves for whining, if you ask me. Weddings (especially here)are financially stressful enough without the guilt trips. Stay firm - DON'T feel the need to explain yourself - and reiterate your needs/wishes to keep this party in check. And then change the subject...they should get the hint

Someone adding a date is plain rude. I think its fair to call them and simply explain that you had to draw a line at some point, that you'd love for them to attend the wedding, but if they don't feel comfortable without a guest you will consider their RSVP a no.

Re: rant ugh guest list
I was showing my girls screen shots this morning of the convo on fb and they were horrified lol like really the convo was crazy. like my friend going on and on how her brother wants to bring a date (after I told him no, he sent her to try to talk me into it) and how he feels like we're family and loved my brother (who died btw almost 10 years ago) like just trying to guilt me and manipulate me. and how they love my family. they act like it's me being mean not letting them bring dates or something.
and then how why can some people bring dates but others can't? I was like those people are married or in serious relationships the aren't 'dates' and how everyone is so upset. that everyone assumed they could bring dates and just cannot believe it. and oh yeah how one girl was dying for me to meet her new bf of a week lol.
I even tried to explain even if I wanted there is no more room on the guest list. and honestly if I could add people I have other friends I'd wanna add than people's dates I never met.
and btw all these people know each other!!! I don't understand why they are dying to bring people it's not like they won't know anyone there. I have 1 friend who knows no one and he is coming by himself. and 1 friend who literally all my friends dislike and he's coming by himself too lol.

oh and my other friends sister who can't bring a date and complained that aren't we all adults and should be allowed to bring dates and how can I be like no dates if people wanna bring them? lol. I was like well as adults we should understand that weddings are expensive.

I had this happen to me. We told them that we just couldn't accommodate all these other people. One of MIL's friends added her BF anyway and then they didn't show up to the wedding... So yea, people suck lol.

This would annoy me so bad! Obviously if you were invited with a guest it would say AND GUEST. Its so rude to call someone to ask them why they dont have a guest. If it bothers you so bad not to bring someone then dont come. Maybe if we all as brides start not having a seat for these added dates people will start to catch on how rude it is. Then we can simply explain they werent invited with a guest & that is why there is not a seat for them. Ok I am a little harsh & clearly not serious but I feel you!

I have already made it clear that the only significant others we are inviting are ones we are friends with (which isn't actually true, but that's how we're avoiding issues). I even went so far as to go away for a weekend with 2 of my best friends and their boyfriends, since FH had never met their boyfriends bc they are out of town. There are FB pics to prove that they have met and, at the very least, got along quite well. LOL

why is everyone so obsessed with going to a wedding?? if you weren't invited with a date there's a reason.. you're paying for the wedding, not them!!

I dunno why people are dying to bring random dates. when I was single I never wanted to bring someone to a wedding unless they were a serious bf. actually I've only taken 2 different guys to a wedding my ex fiance, and my fiance now lol.

I never even met most peoples bf/gf that are coming but I was being nice with that because most live together etc. but to now let all the other people bring dates it just gets crazy. no one seems to understand we have to pay for every person that comes. and only care about themselves and what they wanna do.

I had this happen to me. We told them that we just couldn't accommodate all these other people. One of MIL's friends added her BF anyway and then they didn't show up to the wedding... So yea, people suck lol.
my cousin tried to do that. she begged to bring her bf so I was like ok. until everyone was like they have only been dating like a week! then my other cousin didn't want this guy at his house, which is where they were going to stay. so my cousin just decided to stay home. sort of sad when people won't come just because of a date. odds are by the time January comes she won't even be with the guy considering most guys she dumps within a month lol.
then my grandma's friend who I hadn't even sent an invite to yet supposedly booked her plane ticket then supposedly got a plane ticket for some guy to come with her. I was like she wasn't even invited yet and she wasn't going to be invited with a date. she whined how she wasn't going to be forced to fly alone. then she sent me an email on fb how forget it she had other plans. all this before I even sent her an invitation lol.
people get crazy with weddings. I can't even imagine doing half these things. or harassing the bride like my girl did today to me. that how could I not let her brother bring a date and how upset everyone was. if they are going to cry not being allowed to bring a date they can stay home.

I had told my friend when he asked if he could bring someone that sorry but no. that we had no more room. than this morning his sister started messaging me on why can't he bring a date and how upset he was. and then how our other mutual friend was very upset and really wanted me to meet her new bf (of a week) I was like sorry no dates and no bf for her because guest list was already done. still she went on and on how at least I could let her brother bring a date. I was like there is no more room! people just don't seem to understand lol. then she was like why are some people allowed to bring dates but not him? I was like that's bf/gfs. I'm still freaking out thinking these people are gonna just not listen and rsvp with people. then it's gonna be awkward as I have to message them like sorry no more people.

This is so crazy! I had a coworker once who had a rule for her wedding of: 'only people who are married or are living together' (or if they're friends with both sides if the couple). I think that's a good rule to explain with. That and 'and this is because we already had to cut out some of our friends to narrow down the guest list'

That's insane. I don't understand where people get there understanding of how weddings work. We had people beg for invites and then say they couldn't come. Then we had people who knew for two years about the wedding and then somehow forgot they had to work that day. Or people who we had to call five times to get their RSVP.

Damn, you really aren't having much luck with your guest list!
I fear these problems! Some of our guests will get a plus one and others will not because it's like you said, it depends on how serious they are or if they're married!
Sort of unrelated but twice I was invited to a wedding of friends of ours (last year) and I didn't even get a name on the invitation just FH's name then 'and guest.' Meanwhile we have been together 4 and a half years, very clearly headed to marriage. We were baffled I didn't get a name! But I def. laugh about it now.

it never ends. I'm scared to be on fb just waiting for more annoyances lol. or rsvps with people not invited..... so far it's just been my aunt complaining why my cousins need to get their hair done day of wedding for the 40th time. hello they are bridesmaids! I was like they can wear their hair down & straight any other day except wedding day lol. there should be a book to just give to everyone a bride knows that says shut up, don't complain or try to do anything just shut up & listen lol.

Ask them if their dates would mind sitting in the hallway LOL. I am sure that will blow over big. You could also suggest having no dance floor to accommodate the extra tables. I know, im mean.
