Our church, St. Pat's in Huntington, is booked the day of our wedding.
We are having a really hard time finding a church that will agree to marry non-parishnor's (sp?) and is pretty, shallow, I know.
Can anyone recommend a church that will agree to marry non-parishnors? We live in Huntington, are getting married in Massapequa.
Help!

Re: RC Church help!
Holy Name of Mary in Valley Stream will marry non-parishioners. It also has the longest aisle in western nassau....130 feet!

I just left a message for Father Ken, I'm crossing my fingers and toes about St. Rose of Lima, it seems gorgeous too!
What do you think is an acceptable time gap between the church and cocktail hour? We're looking at about 3 hrs. I guess it is what it is?

Re: RC Church help!
Our ceremony starts at 3 and the cocktail hour starts at 7, so it our gap is approximately 3 hours. Nothing we could do about it. Weddings on a Saturday are at 3 (they have Sat. morning and evening masses that we had to plan around). Plus, most catering halls on a Saturday night won't let you start the CH till 7 because they have daytime events going on.

Yeah, I know it's just the logistics. I think I just need to embrace it. I've been to weddings with 5 hr gaps which was insane! I hope our guests will understand, most are Catholic or have been to Catholic weddings.

Re: RC Church help!
where are you taking pictures? we are doing a full mass (and then recieving line). so we will be at the church 1.5 hours.
we only have 1.5 hour difference beteween church and CH. but we dont plan to go to CH and we are taking pics at the hall.
i dont know fr ken. i dealt with fr. lachlan (sp?) he is a young guy and really down to earth.
good luck!! if you dont hear back by monday, call again!

Haven't quite figured out where we're taking pictures, once we find the church we'll sort that out. We would like to go to our CH so a 3 hr gap would work perfectly for us and the bridal party. We'll see how it all goes. I'll definitely let you know how our conversation with Fr. Ken goes, thanks!

Re: RC Church help!
I just got into an argument with the woman at St. Joe's in Babylon. Seriously. She refused to make an appt for me with the priest until I called locations closer to our reception venue, as apparently the 20 minutes drive is 'too far' between the church and reception in her opinion.
WTH?! I stayed calm, but firm with her, I felt weird yelling at a church lady and might really need her to make an appt. for us next week, but seriously!! Who is she to decide such things?!
UGH!!!

Re: RC Church help!
This kinda crap is what pisses me off about the Catholic Church (I hope I am not offending anyone here). I am a practicing Catholic. I will be getting married in a Catholic Church, full mass. But really, the Catholic Church can be so difficult sometimes. Who the heck cares if you are not a parishoner. They should accomodate you. Sometimes the Church to me seems like nothing but a business. (Dont even get me started about how much I paid for an annullment)
I am sorry you are having a difficult time. Keep looking...my BIL got married at a really pretty church in Franklin Square. I know for a fact they were not parishoners. It is really pretty, old church.
Good luck!

Re: RC Church help!
Ok, we have been penciled in for Cure of Ars, and are awaiting a call back from St. Rose of Lima. So, at least I know we'll be married somewhere.
Whew! I need a drink, lol.

Re: RC Church help!
We had the same problem and I got so mad that I called the Arch Diocese and filed a complaint...that aside, St. Mary's in Manhasset is marrying us.
