RD- buffet or sit down?

RD- buffet or sit down?

Hey Ladies,

I was just wondering what people usually do for their RD in terms of how the food gets served. Is it usually buffet or sit down? Are there any pros or cons against one or the other.

I thought I wanted buffet but my FMIL does not like it. Does it matter? Thanks!!

I personally think buffet is trashy.... sit down all the way!

For the RD, you can do it however you'd like. We're actually going to be doing a catered bbq in FIL's backyard.

FYI - my e-party was a brunch buffet and was far from trashy . So buffet's don't have to be trashy......some people actually prefer them.

I must be the queen of trashy cuz I'm having my RD in my backyard...a BBQ

To answer the OP's question-

It really depends on your personal taste and style, and also your budget. I think either one is perfectly acceptable. I LOVE buffets cuz its all you can eat, and if you dont like something you can get something else.

Re: RD- buffet or sit down?

Thanks ladies, I wanted a less formal RD. Something laid back and fun. I thought a buffet would be nice because people would be socializing more and not sitting the whole time waiting to be served. I am not opposed to the sit-down, but it just seems a little more formal then I intially envisioned.

Both to me are nice and I really did not mean for my post to start any drama. Sorry!! But thanks for the advice!!

I've been to both and both were absolutely fine!!

People who prefer sit down dinners to buffets are lazy

We did buffet...and it wasnt at all trashy...my guests are still talking about the food. If your looking to do a less formal RD, I think that would be perfect for you and WAY cheaper

Trashy ironic.

Either have a certain appeal.
Sitdown is nice if you prefer something formal. You are more likely to be the center of attention that way .....

Buffet is nice if you are more social, fun loving, want to have everyone interacting more casually

I have been to both and enjoyed them....I do prefer the trashy buffet Still we will be having FH's preference here (as he is paying) of a sitdown.

I not a fan of buffets either but there are ways to express that without being tacky and classless yourself.

To the OP, I have been to many, many, many rehearsal dinners that were buffet and so far not one of them has been 'trashy'. I think it all depends on you and your FH, and the kind of RD you are looking to have! Also if your FIL's are paying for it, their input it huge. We went with a plated dinner, but only because my in laws were able to swing it-they were paying. I told them I would be MORE than happy with a buffet (which was a slight exaggeration, but truthfully it mattered very little) but in the end the price for the plated dinner was the same as the buffet! So we went with the plated which is what FH and I preferred. We had about 25 people at our RD. Your RD will be lovely either way. FM me if you need any recommendations! Good luck!

If you are looking to spend as less as possible, then go with the sit-down since it consist of 3-4 courses. However, buffet requires refills for stations which means since more trays have to be refilled (depending on size of your wedding) this can add up to a pretty good sum. This advice came from the caterer I worked with for my wedding. In the end, I went with sit down dinner since it cost a lot less than buffet.

So whenever you have been to an event where there was a buffet, I know I have been to plenty, you told whoever was hosting it 'Sorry I don't eat buffet food. It's too trashy for my taste'.
