RD near Riverhead, NY

I've asked this before but so far, not a lot of luck. FMIL is paying for the RD but is trying to keep the cost down. The absolute minimum number of people I can convince her to have is like 60 so she can have all her friends....

Anyone know of anything reasonable that can hold that many people? So far everything is either way too much money or too small. I want to try to convince her to do it at East Wind (since they give us a discount for having our wedding there-so that would end up being $25pp plus tax). She thinks it's still too much money with the discount.

Any suggestions appreciated. I'm ready for a pizza party on the beach but I'm getting vetoed

I'm in the same boat. We are paying everything for ourselves so the RD is like a second wedding. We'd like to skip it but don't know if that's possible. Its out of control.

I'm all for renting a place with tables and just bringing food in somehow. Something very casual. Is that even possible out east?

IMO $25pp is very reasonable. I don't know if she will have much luck trying to find something that is less expensive. I haven't started looking into one for myself yet, but have planned quite a few events in my days and I would be happy paying $25 pp.

I completely agree. She's from upstate NY though....doesn't quite understand that prices are different here...

$25 pp doesn't sound that bad to me either, but then again I'm not looking to invite 60 people. Ai yi yi. I live out by Riverhead, and the only places that are coming to mind are Applebees and TGI Fridays (lol)...

Let's see. There's the Lobster Roll, Jerry & The Mermaid, but both of those are probably more expensive than it's worth if you want a full meal... To feed 60 people your FMIL will probably be hard pressed to pay less than $1000, but if she is willing to just pre-order a bunch of appetizers and stuff for everyone to share she could probably cut it down to about $10-$15 per person.

Pizza party on the beach sounds absolutely perfect to me too at this point! I mean the next day you're going to be all fancy so you may as well have fun and save some money!

I was having a hard time finding a place near Riverhead as well. We are getting married at East Wind, but I am doing the rehearsal dinner at Villa Tuscano in Hampton Bays. Their prices are all under $30 pp, as low as $23.95. It's a little bit of a hike, but it's the most reasonable place I've found and the food is really good. You should check it out!
