?? re: alcohol consumption - not yet ttc but off the pill

Hi ladies,

I know this may be a stupid question, but my doctor told me to go off the pill 2-3 months prior to TTC, which I just recently did. Even though we are not trying, we have had sex and I wasn't really keeping track and went out with my friends one night and had a LOT to drink. Now I'm freaking out about the possibility of being pregnant and having drank so much.

So, for those not really trying yet - have you just stopped drinking altogether? Only have sex on 'off-times', if so, when would those off times be?

This sounds really dumb as I'm typing it, but I guess I wasn't really ready to stop drinking alcohol or coffee or all those other things until I was actually TTC, and I've been on the pill for 10 years now so I never had to worry about accidentally getting pregnant. I just don't want to do anything to jeopardize the health of the baby if I do.

That is not a stupid questions I've been wondering the same thing. I would think that you have to stop drinking once you come off the pill in case you do get pregnate and I was told the drinking is especially harmful in the first trimester...me and my FH are planning on using condoms until we are ready to TTC (when I'm off the pill)

I know thta probablly didn't answer you question, but I just wanted you to know that it wasn't a stupid question

Since we officially TTC, I have stopped alcohol.

I would not worry about it. What is done is done. Don't stress yourself out.

I have heard that you are okay until the baby starts feeding off you, which isnt until at least 1 month or pregnancy. I think you are okay.

Actually this is not true. As early as 3 weeks, there is already effects from Alcohol.

So, while a one time deal is 'OK', it is really not recommended to drink during pregnancy.
