Re: re c-sections
For me it was medical also. When I had my son, I had toxemia, my blood pressure was very high, and after 13 hours of labor, my son was 'stuck' and his heart rate was dropping. With this one, I have the pregnancy induced high blood pressure again, and the decision was pretty much left up to me that I could TRY to go natural, but it was likely that I would again need the c-section. I decided to forgo the labor this time and go straight for the c-section.

Re: re c-sections
For me it was decided while I was in labor. There was meconium when they broke my water so they started thinking c-section at the point. My doctor wanted me to try pushing because my labor had gone so quickly. I pushed for over 2 hours and she didn't want to move down at all. So between the 2 they decided to do a c-section.

Re: re c-sections
Emma was an emergency c/s. Her heart rate would drop with every contraction. When they broke my water there was some meconium in it. The gave her some time to see how she tolerated labor but when it came time to push her heart rate was getting very low and they wanted her out. This next one is going to be a repeat C because that is how I want to do it.

Re: re c-sections
I had a c/s because my boy was breech the whole time and he was big. I chose not to have a version to turn him and was playing the 'wait to see if he turns last minute' when my water broke and he was born via c/s 3 hours later.

Re: re c-sections
I had an emergency c-section also....I had been in labor for 16 hrs with very little progression....if you do not get the baby out within 24 hrs of having your water break, you risk infection. So in my case, it was absolutely necessary.

Re: re c-sections
To add to my previous post... My doc is making the repeat C out to be a convenience issue. He wants me to schedule the C so its not done at 3AM and I will have someone to watch Emma. I said I didnt want the baby to come on his watch, I want the baby to come when its ready. He wasnt happy with that comment

Good for you!! I know we've talked about this before. Are you going to attempt the v-bac?

Re: re c-sections
Nope Ive decided, purly for selfish reasons, that I am just going to have the repeat. I know what its about. I know how the pain is and how the recovery is. I have the scar from Emma. I dont want to add more scars to my body. PLUS my 'area' is how its always been. I dont want that completly foreign to me too by being all stretched out and just different. I know a C is major surgery but its less stressful on the baby. There is no guarantee that I will winde up with a VBAC, it could end in another C anyway. I have to be in bed monitored the whole time (I was in bed with Emma from 5cm-9cm and I wanted to die cause I had to be on my back). To me it just makes more sense to go into labor naturally, go to the hospital where they will give me an emergency C and the baby will be out in less than an hour with very little labor at all.

Re: re c-sections
I am a very different opinion on repeat c/s vs. VBAC...I also have had a very different c/s experience than some of the other women. Not going to debate it.....I just don't believe that a women should have a repeat c/s without medical reason and that a doctor should perform major surgery on a women for convience. There are different opinions on this subject and often it is a very emotional debate on both sides of the issue.

Re: re c-sections
At almost 42 weeks, and estimated to be large I was given the choice to wait which was not recommended for fear of meconium aspiration and size, being induced, or c/s.So I chose to try induction, the cervidil and the pitocin did absolutely nothing. Apparently after over 18 hrs I was having contraction but couldn't feel them. Then the baby's heart rate would lower when I moved in certain positions so we decided to have the c/s
I was terrified!!!! Next time (if there is a next time) if my body does not cooperate, I will likely have to have another c/s which I am NOT looking forward to, but I hear the other option isn't the easiest either!
I also have this fear of my uterus ripping during labor because of my previous scar tissue.

Re: re c-sections
Uterine rupture is VERY,VERY, VERY RARE!!!! In fact, a women who has had a v-birth is also at almost the same risk of it. Think of it this way- when you have open heart surgery the doctor does not tell the patient to not have the heart beat anymore. Your uterus is not as fragile as you think it is.

Re: re c-sections
I had to have a C-section. The baby was measuring large from the beginning. He was 9 lbs., 13 oz., give or take a pound, 7 days before my due date, and when he was born, which was 5 days before my due date, he weighed in at 10 lbs., 12 oz. I couldn't imagine pushing that size baby out the other way!
Just imagine if he was late! He probably would of been around 12 lbs! I can't wait to have another baby... of course we have too... but I'm not sure about a VBAC delivery. I'm scared of the uterus tearing also, and if the baby is big again, it wouldn't fit! I'll probably have to have another C-section. They even had to use the vacuum on my son with the c-section because his head was too big!

Re: re c-sections
Again, Uterine rupture is VERY, VERY RARE....women who have a v-birth are also at risk for a rupture.Women have been having large babies for hundreds of years. My own mother had a 10lb baby (my brother). The baby can and very often does fit...your body is an amazing thing. Malpractice is what is the reason for the increase in the c/s rate IMO, not women's health.
Fear should not force women into major surgery, nor should convience. It is not convient to be in the hospital for 4+ days, unable to get up and down without assistance. on much heavier medications for a longer period of time.
