Re-gifting

Re-gifting

FH and I totally don't see eye to eye on this. He thinks it's fine but I don't (except for some rare exceptions).

What do you think?

It depends. If you got something form your bridal shower that you already had or do not like and you know your friend would love it. Then I might.

I've done it.

You know how sometimes you exchange X-mas gifts with co-workers and some bosses? well, how many albums and picture frames can you prossibly use? so I re-gifted them.... but not to my mom or anyone close like that.

this was all before I got engaged. Now I need the albums & picture frames back!

I never did.

But....I think someone did it to me at my shower, but I can't say for certain -- it could have been someone who wasn't invited to my Engagement Party and was invited to my Shower.

In my wishing well there was a gift in there that was actually my Engagement favor!!

I have some things like that -- I'm too scared what if they find out

Re: Re-gifting

I don't and don't see myself ever doing it either. It's funny...for Christmas last year I gave a co-worker VS lotions since she was running low...so I found they discontinued her scent so I searched high and low to find at least something similar. Well my B-day recently passed and wouldn't you know it...I got the same exact thing as a gift...

Coincidence...I think NOT!

I don't think it is ever acceptable. One time I caught my boss re-gifting a bottle of wine. Not to me, but to someone else. YOU ARE A MULTI-MILLIONAIRE FOR GOODNESS SAKE!!!!!

Re: Re-gifting

I actually regift things like wine, liquor and chocolates all the time as hostess gifts - as something to take if I am invited to someone's house for dinner. DH doesn't drink, a whole bottle of anything is usually too much for me to drink and we don't entertain a whole lot, so it would go to waste if I didn't give it away.

I often regift, but tell the person it is a regift - so it is not a birthday or christmas gift, but just something I 'pass on' to someone else, like 'Hey, can you use this?' sort of thing.

I can see that. But that is not re-gifting per se, that is more like not wasting things but this was a Holiday gift from a vendor or something and he gave it to our accountant saying 'thank you for all your help this year.' As if he went out and got it himself.

Re: Re-gifting

I do not want to hurt the person's feelings I would just keep it in the closet and use it one year.

Re: Re-gifting

i do regift but it also depends on the occasion and def make sure the person who gave you that gift is NOT there! that's a huge fo-pah!

We are giving it to my brother for x-mas, it's soo hiim and well, my brother didn't give us anything for the wedding or my birthday this year

Re: Re-gifting

Never done it but I have been on the receiving end and could certainly tell it was a regift.

I might do it if the gift I got was something very nice that I just had no use for or already had one.

Re: Re-gifting

Just make sure it doesn't go to anyone who will ever know the original gifter!

His family and mine live hundreds of miles away...so sometimes when his fam. gives me something I don't like my sister or sister-in-law get a lovely re-gift! (they have diff. taste than me, so only if it's something I really think they'll like!)

Re: Re-gifting

I have, I got this Hideous vase from my Grandmas aunt, I re-gifted it to my grandmas friend who loved it. Later my grandma asked isnt that from so and so, I just smiled and she said ' Oh Jennifer that is tacky' the lady liked it and I would have tossed it or put it in the closet far away.
