RE: HARRISON HOUSE? How Many? How is it?

Anybody know if the Harrison House can accomodate 200 people in one room for sit-down dinner? Or do they split them up?

I recently looked at the Bourne Mansion and de Seversky Center and were disappointed that neither of those could fit everyone in one room with the band.

Or does anyone know of anyother Mansion type Venues that can accomodate at least 200 guests? I've already looked at Oheka as well.

thanks!

Check out the Vanderbit. Also, read ThongLori's HH review -- may help.

No
They cannot.
If you do have that many- the band is in a different room

Try the Carlyle or the Carltun

i was told the Bourne can fit 200 with a band - it is the maximum - you go over that then you use the extra room - did you look at the floor plan - the tables mostly hold 12

Harrison house - the room was smaller - and unusual shape - would have to use the circular room in the middle

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, we looked into using the sun room at Bourne behind the main ballroom, but felt that the dance floor might still be tight and that people might feel insulted if they got placed in the back room.

it is hard with such a big number - and wanting a mansion wedding - Bourne is the biggest original ballroom

there are some nice mansions around westchester area

otherwise the place that holds the most is Oheka - but that is the new ballroom

the only other option with that many is to have cocktail hour around one the mansions and have a tent in the back - that is what they do at vandebilt museum and the other mansion in Huntington - i can't remeber the name

Yeah...so I'm now coming to understand. I would gladly cut the guest list but unfortunately the MOB will not allow that.

Peharps the Carltun? I haven't tried their yet, but have heard it is just as pricey as Oheka.

Re: RE: HARRISON HOUSE? How Many? How is it?

i forgot abou carlun- and caryle- they are a bit different

i actually like caryle beter - more room for cocktail hour

if it rains at carltun the cocktail hour room is a bit cramped - it is also more expensive then caryle but less then oheka's (everything is less than oheka)

caryle uses more rooms for coktail hour - but going outside is a bit wierd - hav to walk through part of ballroom

both have the ability for after parties - 1 hour extra in a separate room

the problem with carly and carlton over Bourne is you can't pick your start time - must start at 7 at both - my church is at 2 and that is the latest i could have before 5 pm mass

But Bourne has downfalls too- only three bathrooms -

Did Ben give you a copy of the floor plan? that is how you see the room set up

i also picked a band that was not huge either

Just wanted to say hi, Heather! You'll find someplace wonderful, I'm sure. It just stinks that you have to go through all of this before you find the right place.

i was just going over some of my contacts with other Bourne Brides - Rea - used current affair - like i am it is 9 piece- and had 200 people in the ballroom - did not use extra space

the ballroom actually maxs out at 225 for sit down - over 225 have to use the other room

you really should be fine with 200

Re: RE: HARRISON HOUSE? How Many? How is it?

huh. really? When I was there this past Saturday it really didn't look as if there would be enough room, especially for a dance floor.

We looked at the floor plan and actually moved tables and chairs around to figure it out.

Yes, the bathrooms I suppose I could get over.

Also there are only 2 bars and not sure if thats enough, since there is only 1 waiter per table and some of those tables seat 12. It seems like their should be more servers if the guests can easily access the bar.

I am having abut 220 at Carltun and I think the cocktail room is ample space- especially with spill over into the entrance room and the gallery. I guess it depends on how many people you have.. People can also spill outside if it is warm enough- there is a little roof, so if it is raining peopel can still be outside- but, the whole CH cannot be.

Harrison House was really pretty- but we did not like the set up of the ballroom- the band is in the ballroom- they are just kinda behind doors.. and then the ballroom is circular on one end, and rectangle on the other-- It would be hard to see the dancefloor from any seat in the house.. I think they set up is slightly better for less than 200 people.

If you wanted outside though- HH has beautiful grounds..

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated.

Yeah, I'm actually shooting for Fall 2005, preferably October, which is aslo why I'm so anxious, bc I know every day I can get this settled my chances of holding it in October or Fall entirely, go down.

Well- if you were interested in Carltun- my Banquet Manager told me last week that every Sat night is now booked for '05-- of course, there are always cancellations.

Re: RE: HARRISON HOUSE? How Many? How is it?

We're having 160-170 at the Harrison House for a sit down dinner, and all will be seated in the main ballroom with a good 'view' of the dance floor. We were given the option of having the band in the ballroom (still fitting everybody), or having them in the circular center room, with the 4 vocalists in front of the doors. We chose this 2nd option rather than clutttering the ballroom with the band equipment. We also spoke to the band about it first, however, and they said they have done this many times at the Harrison House, and it always works out nicely. When the band members are playing lighter instruments (i.e. horns) they come out into the ballroom.

Anyway, I'm not sure about the 200- you should call the Harrison House to ask- speak to Carmella, she'll be very honest with you.

I think that Snowprincess is right though- the Bourne Mansion ballroom should def. be able to fit 200. If not, and you don't want Oheka...probably no mansion on LI that will accomodate that many people comfortably.

If you're stuck on the idea of having a mansion feel, you may want to broaden your search into Westchester. Here are a couple of suggestions: CV Rich Mansion (White Plains), Whitby Castle (Rye), Tappan Hill (Tarrytown), Estherwood (Dobbs Ferry), and there are some more if you're willing to go even further north, like Putnam.

I haven't been on this site in a while but saw that you were posting about the Bourne Mansion. If you are inviting 200 guests you have to remember that probably 15 - 20% (on average) will not attend so you are already down to about 160 - 170 people and that is plenty of room for the dance floor at the Bourne. I invited 240 and had 200 people and it honestly didn't feel at all packed. Also...b/c there is an outside, a lot of people go outside and hang out there.
good luck and if you have any questions about Bourne please feel free to ask away....
