Re-Poll: Ceremony Musicians: Organ Vs. String Trio
Hi, I need to decide on my ceremony musicians ASAP. Here's the situation:
--church is small (occupancy: ~200 people, although ~100 attending) --organ / piano available in church --in-house organist can play piano or organ, but not both --fee for organist: $150 --very affordable string trio (still more expensive than organist) --trio travel fee add'l (trio travels from LI to Queens) --Processional (Canon in D or Trumpet Voluntary or Here Comes the Bride)
I love the trio, but I don't know if they'll attend my rehearsal. They've never been to the church, so I think it's necessary for them to be there. Considering my music choices and other details, which musicians should I book?

I am just having the organist from my church play. I can't really see paying the extra money on a trio only for an half hour (we aren't having a mass). The organist at the church is familiar with the church and the ceremony. I think it is just easier this way, less for me to worry about.

I voted for 'other' because I really think both of your options are great choices. A friend of mine used the string quartet for similar music as yours and it sounded different, but still beautiful. And you can never go wrong with a live piano or organ in my opinion. So, sorry to not give you a direct answer!

I had a string trio because it was something I always wanted. We had a mass so we had alot of music and I was so happy that we did it. Our guests kept saying how nice it was too.
ETA: Our trio had never been to our church either. They came 45 minutes before hand to get settled. They're professionals who do this all the time and have to adapt to many different environments so I trusted. I don't think the organist typically comes to rehearsal either.
