Realistic Wedding Budget

Im getting help from my parents to throw our wedding. They are willing to put in 6000 dollars. Has anyone ever thrown a wedding with reception for less than 10 thousand dollars. Every post Ive seen, people are spending between 25-50k!!!! Im feeling really defeated at this point and getting ready to elope!

I was in your boat.....I did decide to have a destination wedding. I had a $10,000 budget and no matter how I tried to work it, I just couldn't make it work. I looked at about 25-30 catering halls but when I added in vendors, dress, honeymoon etc.. It kept coming up to more than we wanted to spend. If you really want to have your wedding on LI, look into it. Keep the hope. There are a few girls on here that were able to kept 10k-15k budgets. You'll just have to be willing to make some sacrifices. I love to travel and FH actually asked me to have a destination wedding when he found out how much a wedding here would cost. He was originally the one pushing for a wedding here. Good luck in whatever you decide!!!

Probably possible if you have a small guest list and have it at a restaurant instead of a catering hall.

I had a $10K budget. I think it will probably be $15K in the end. The key is starting with a reception hall that does not cost an arm and an leg since everything else will probably cost more than you anticipated.

you can do it, just keep your guest list small and consider having your wedding on a sunday to lower the costs. you can also cuts costs on the photographer, most of the extra you don't need because they give you the proofs and you can have them made into larger pics at any time.

Look into all inclusive halls like Brentwood Country Club. My cousin got married there last year- its 10k for 100 people including all vendors (photo, dj, limo, invites, etc.) It was a very nice wedding, the food was good and they didnt spend a fortune.

I think windows on the lake and a few other halls have deals like that also.

there are RHs that do the full package, everything you'll need except your dress. Try Ariana Waterfalls

Also try the Ultimate wedding package at Ariana Studios

My sister in law did a destination wedding and spent about 10k.. I didn't want to spend more than 20K and I am over 30K with 4mths to go.. My advice, watch that guest list... If I could do it all over, I would have invited less people. In the moment, I felt like I 'had' to invite certain people but don't go broke doing it. I didn't break the bank but in hindsight it seems so stupid to pay that much for food! LOL! I hope I get good gifts! Otherwise, don't lose sight of the day, do what you can afford and don't try to keep up with other brides.

Best of luck!

Re: Realistic Wedding Budget

We have a $10K budget, not including honeymoon, and we're pretty close to it. The keys are a small wedding, an 'off' day, time, or month (or all three), and a more 'budget' hall. Or you could go with a dessert or hors doeuvres reception, you just have to make sure that your guests realize it's not a full meal, else they'll be insulted or feel cheated.

But, really, the easiest way to do it is cut your guest list. We could have cut ours down to a final tally of 60 or so, and that would have been nice, actually. I'm looking forward to our small wedding (80 or so.) But our hall has an 85 person minimum. There are halls with a small minimum, it depends on the size of the room. There are recent threads on here about it, search for one.

And, you can cut out a lot of 'unnecessary' items. You don't absolutely need favors, that can save a lot. You don't need floral centerpieces, and if you get married at your hall, you don't need limos--even if you don't, you still might be able to avoid getting limos, such as by borrowing someone's cool car. My gown cost about $750 after a LOT of shopping around. Try places like Netbride or RK Bridal. And the smaller your bridal party, the less expenses you have: fewer bridal bouquets, less bridal party presents, less limo (if you do get one) etc.

there are many books out there about saving money on weddings, and numerous threads on here. Saving money is actually kinda fun, it's like a game at times!

Good luck.

Re: Realistic Wedding Budget

Its incredible how much it all adds up to- we are in the same boat- we have a smaller budget than most- about 10-15k for everything. I think it is doable- we are pickeing a smaller hall, and looking at a Sunday wedding. The hall included flowers for the tables- so that was one less expense. Instead of favors, we are making a donation to the MS society- my aunt has MS and all our friends and family know that this is something near and dear to our hearts. Some of my bridesmaids are crafty- so I am having them help me with projects to try and save some money- but also make the wedding more intimate and more us. FM me if you have any questions- good luck :)

Yeah its hard to not invite people when you feel like they will be offended. I have 9 aunts 2 uncles and over 23 cousins and thats just on my MOTHERS SIDE! Im going to look into the all inclusive places, particularly the Ariana Waterfalls place. It seems like the perfect deal for all the people that will be coming. Thanks so much for the tips. Hopefully I can make this happen the way I want it to without losing my hair before the big day!

Hunny, I am sorry to be so pessimistic, but it's tough to throw a wedding with a small budget. Our bueget at first was 20K we ended up spending a little over 31K!!!!!!!!! (honeymoon included) It can be done but it's really hard!!!!! We took out a 16K loan for the wedding, my dad threw in 5 K and we figured out the rest! Good luck and I hope you can stick to your budget!!!!

It can be done. Don't let anyone discourage you. Keep guest list small,
Do an off month
Try a morning wedding,
combine reception and ceremony in one place
try the all inclusive rh.

You can do it.

Re: Realistic Wedding Budget

it is completely doable- mine will probably come to about 12-13k when it is all said and done- you have to be willing to have your wedding during the 'off season' or on a thursday night- sooo much cheaper!!

It can be done, but it's tough. Ours is going to cost about $13,000 in the end, but that's without our honeymoon. We're having an afternoon wedding with about 100 people.

I realize this is an older post that's been bumped...

Keep it simple. We are having a 'big' wedding which is smaller compared to others about 110-120 guests. I guess average but big for us Anyway we wanted to keep it at 20K but just the catering alone for that many people ate up more than half of that.
