Realistically...

I know asking questions about prices is not the most socially acceptable thing to do, but I am having a hard time figuring out what to do. FH and I are currently in the process of finding a dj, and I've seen them vary so drastically in price that I'm pretty confused. All we want is someone who will stick to our playlist, make the bp & other appropriate announcements, and occasionally motivate people to dance.
So my question is, what makes a $3000 dj better than a $1500 one? Does the more expensive dj have better equipment? Do they have better cds?!? I don't get it!!
Any suggestions as to general price range for a good dj would be greatly appreciated (as well as the company name)!
Thanks so much!!

to be honest... i never understood it either, which is why i'm going with the $1100 dj. I mean after all if you give them a playlist, how hard is it to play them??

But if you want a light show, fog, slideshow or whatever else people are doing these days... than obviously the price goes up!

I think the price depends on the size of the company and you are sometimes paying for 'the name' i am going with a DJ for 1595 and they are doing everything we want. I saw them at a showcase and loved them and they made use comfortable right away. FM me if you want info!!

Usually the more expensive DJ packages include special lighting optioons, maybe a bubble machine, certain types of give aways, cocktail hour music. There are all sorts of add ins. From what I can tell, CD selection and equipment did not vary with price.

FH and I just wanted the basic stuff so that is what we went for.

I am not sure about the cost factor but I was at a wedding not too long ago and the DJ was awful. They did not seem very professional & multiple times there was skipping and dead air.
Thier set up looked cheesy too. My friend said she paid a lot of money and was very mad. I think it is more about personality of the DJ and if they really know what you want and have a decent reputation. My sisters DJ was awesome and I am using him too. John Foy at fantasy affair in medford. He is not the cheapest but is not the most expensive either and offers all different priced packages. Good Luck!!!!!!!!!

You should be able to get a professional DJ for 700-1000 for your needs. No reason to pay more... I'll FM you more about this...
