really???!!!

really???!!!

So as i posted about 2 seconds ago, my e-party was yesterday.

One of our friends didn't show up and we are really pissed off about it ... and it's not like he forgot about it - he asked us about the dress code 2 days before hand!! FH wants to un-invite him from the wedding ... it's very rude not to show up at all (without a call or apology or whatnot!) What do you think?

Also, two of FH's friends came without a gift ... one is 'poor' and we kind of expected it ... but the other is FH's best friend! We were annoyed at that too! Are these excusable since it's just an engagement?

PS: i hope i don't sound greedy when it comes to the gifts ... it's not that i care about the gift ... but a thought would've been nice (even if it's just a card!!!).

I would give the person who just didn't show a few days to mention it before you guys think about not inviting him to the wedding. Even if you do decide to not invite him you have plenty of time to finalize your guest list.

As for the guests without gifts... ettiquite says they aren't 100% required for an e-party. Would I show up without one? No... but each person is different.

Re: really???!!!

as for the gift, i dont think its a big deal...

if you look up etiquette for e-party is usually says gifts are not expected/required.

i know i looked that up before our e-party, so i didnt really expect anything. turns out that everyone but 2 ppl gave us a gift. one was MOH another was a GM.

cant really be upset though. im sure you will get something for the wedding

just think - what if they looked up the etiquette too? maybe they didnt realize it was 'expected'

as for other friend..you need to find out why he didnt show...is everything alright?

Re: really???!!!

We're waiting for the no-show friend to talk to us (we're not going to start that conversation). We're going to give him a few days before we confront him.

I doubt there was any kind of emergency because his last few facebook status updates are silly ('Mr No Show hasn't unlocked his door since saturday', 'Mr No Show thinks he should un-friend anyone who he hasn't spoken to in the last year', etc) ...

this is super strange. is he mad at you guys for any reason? this sounds like a cry for help.....??? weeeiiiirdd

Re: really???!!!

that's strange about the no show. if it really makes you that angry, i'd give him a day or two to explain himself and if he hasn't then i'd ask him about it.

is the other person who didn't bring a gift a gm/bm? maybe they assumed that since they're going to be spending a lot on being a part of your wedding, bparties, wedding gifts, etc. that they didn't need to bring a gift to this party? i agree that they should have at least brought a card but maybe they don't know engagement party etiquette and aren't used to this sort of thing. i don't think you should get mad over it ... it's 1 gift

I don't understand no shows.
Is it so hard to pick up the phone??

Sorry about that!

Re: really???!!!

So Mr. No Show just sent FH and I a facebook email that said he was sick with some stomach flu yesterday.

But that sounds like a fake excuse. If he was home sick, he could have called!!!

plus, facebook? really???

is it just me, or is this guy lying?

FH is SUPER-PISSED and will probably call him eventually to talk this through ... but FH said he needs to cool off for a while still. i don't blame him ... it's very annoying

Re: really???!!!

gifts are required at all parties. i don't care what the wedding rules are, but if someone is feeding you or providing you with drinks, you bring them something.

eta bc i see no show did respond. it's prob a fake excuse but i'm not sure he can be booted at this point. i guess it depends on his relationship with FH.

the non-gifters are not in the bridal party.

i'm not really MAD, per se ... just a little disappointed in him, i guess.

he's not that close to FH ... they see each other 2 or 3 times a year ... Mr No Show was on our B list originally, but we 'promoted' him at some point.

FH will make the final decision since the guy is his friend ... he'll talk to him and figure out what he wants to do.

Re: really???!!!

two of FH's GM didnt show up with gifts. one is actually his BM but him and his wife came from NC, so we genuinely did not expect anything. the other was asking how much we spent a plate, the whole deal, and nothing. so idk what happened with him

We had 3 people come to the wedding and not give a gift or even a card.

i'd be pissed at the guy too...FB is such a cheap way to get out of that situation... I'm sorry it's just rude!!! If he truly was sick with a virus- phones still work and we still live in the wonderful world of texting! at least cheap out with a text the day of!!!

I don't know personally, I won't people at my wedding who truly love and appreciate myself, FH and our relationship...I'd be giving him the boot!!!

def let FH cool off a bit and then talk to him, I think that's the best way to handle it...

As for the gift, I'd be less pissed at that...altho I do agree with most of you ladies- I don't go anywhere without a gift- not even to a friends house for dinner, I alwaysss bring something but I guess that's just the way I was raised.
