Really Big Window- where to get curtains & rod?

OK, told you I would have lots of decorating questions. I have a large window in my great room, its 10 feet 8 inches long. I have two other standard size windows in the room, as well as sliding glass doors to the deck. I want to keep the curtain hardware/rods the same on all windows- where can I find an extra long curtain rod that will also come in smaller sizes? And, can I get a two panel curtain on the large window, or do I need to do three?

I am going to take pics tonight when I get home to post, so you can get a better idea, but thought I would throw it out there. I have looked in BBB, Linens & things, no luck finding such a long rod.

Unless you have something custom made, you'll have to join the ends of 2 rods. (We just had the same problem with a 14' window.)

I recommend checking out JCPenney.com I don't know what you're planning to do, but they carry larger panels (width & length) at reasonable prices.

Jenny, thanks for the info. I do not have a Home Depot expo near me though- do I need special hardware to join 2 rods together? I was thinking of nice wooden rods, but I dont know if I can join those. Also, I am planning on getting the double rod holder (dont know what exactly this is called) so I can hang sheers behind the heavy curtains.

I am wondering if I can get standard rods and then buy the hardware to join them at a regular Home Depot...

I'm pretty sure the regular Home Depot carries rods, brackets and joiner (it's just a screw with no head. You screw both ends of the rods together.)


I don't know what diameter rod you're looking for, but I can't recall if they carried thicker rods (2'+ diam.).


Do you live on LI? Home Depot Expo seemed to carry a wide variety in everything: finials, rods, brackets

Expo Design Center (division of Home Depot) had large curtain rods and brackets. Check on line if you don't have one near you.

Edited to say that I just checked online and their web selection is pathetic. I remember thinking at the store that I wished I had a room with a window big enough to need some of the huge window treatment options they showed.
