Hey ladies- Havent posted in awhile- hope all your planning is going well!
I had an aweome meeting today with my reception site, but the only thing i was surprised by were how high the suggested tipping fees were. They said somewhere between 700-1000 for the banquet manager, and between 200-350 for the bridal attndant and two captains. Th servise will be excellent but this seems crazy. Am i cheap or just not informed??

Re: really expensive for tipping???
How many people are you having at your wedding? I've heard it's $1.50 - $2.00 per person attending your wedding to the maitre'd and @$100-150 for the bridal attendant. That seems like a huge chunk of change for a tip. JMO

Re: really expensive for tipping???
That's insane!! The BM shouldn't get anymore than 2 per person, unless he's carrying you down the aisle!

Re: really expensive for tipping???
That seems very high and the whole tipping thing pi**es me off anyway. We're already giving 18% to the place for the tip, why do we have to do more?

Re: really expensive for tipping???
That sounds very high to me. I was only planning on $300 for my Maitre'D.

Re: really expensive for tipping???
If you need to tip again, what is the point of the 18% then. Tipping has gotten out of control!!!

Re: really expensive for tipping???
I agree....why do we have to pay the 18% if we have to tip AGAIN???

Re: really expensive for tipping???
The 18% goes to the waitstaff and bartenders.. typically the maitre d' is not tipped out of that.

Re: really expensive for tipping???
The reason they probably do this is b/c there are some people there, who don't have liweddings brides like us, who don't know better and just pay it b.c they feel obligated to do so!

Re: really expensive for tipping???
how many guests are you having?
$700 is a HUGE amount of money to suggest as a tip.

Re: really expensive for tipping???
Isn't that a little 'out there' to ask for the 'suggested amount'? Carlyle did that to us- a $1200 suggested executive gratuity for the Maitre D, Captain, Chef, etc.. We paid it. We gave the bridal attendant $100 on top of that.. plus the 20% per person for the staff..

Re: really expensive for tipping???
My place is tacking on an 18% 'Service Fee' that was explained to us as *not* a tip. So we have to tip on top of that? What's a 'Service Fee'??
Reminds me of Ticketmaster and their 'convenience charges'...yeah, 'convenience' - to who? Not me!
