A 'service fee' that is 18% but is not the tip for the waitstaff is BS- means that the house is pocketing it- you should say something.

i am having 200 people so maybe I will split the difference and say like 400-500$ ? the hard part is that the service is really wonderful and i want to tip well but their range seemed absurd to me for 5 hours of work, right?

I think that their suggestion is too hi! In my place, the 18% is called for 'gratuity' we are going to ask to the banquet manager on monday when we go for the menu planning, but if we do have to tip someone, is never going to be those amounts; we can't afford it, plus to give us a great service is their job! it is not a favor!

Oh my God $700!!! No way, I too have an 18% tax/grat fee, so I dont think I'll be giving the Maitre D and his staff more than $350 the day of my wedding. They expect $700 they better spoon feed me and wipe my mouth

I've heard 300 for the m'atradie (sp is WAY OFF) - I don't even know if we are having a bridal attendant - do you add on if the waitstaff is the one bringing stuff into your bridal suite?
