really late wedding present- what should I do?

really late wedding present- what should I do?

Hello all,
I am so embarrassed to even admit this, but a friend of mine from college got married a year and a half ago. She had her wedding in CA, and due to our having a 2 month old baby, we could not attend. We did not send a gift at the time, and the longer it's been the more anxious I've been about sending the 'right' gift. She has always been generous with our engagement, wedding, and baby gifts, and I really want to return the favor. She sent a lovely holiday card, and I am wriitng back. I know it is incredibly tacky to ask her what gift she would like, but I don't want to give something useless or something they have. It has been so long, I have no idea what was on her registry or anything.

I would really appreciate any advice!!!

TIA!

Hmmm.. tough one. It would be really awkward for both of you if you asked, she'll feel funny 'telling you' what to buy her and it will look bad on your part. I'd vote to send a gift card or money at this point (without telling them it's coming) and explain in the card that you're sorry it's so late.. that way they can buy what they need/want

I would just address it up front...I know we didn't come to the wedding and we're so sorry we couldn't make it. I realized that it slipped my mind for a long time to get you a gift, so is there anything you've had your eye on for the house?

Otherwise, I'd just send a gift card so she can get what she wants.

I would just pick something out that you know she would like, she will appreciate anything. I dont like to be asked what someone should get me, i yelled at DH for doing this lol. So not sure if she is the same, and when im asked i dont really answer, i say whatever is fine.

I say just surprise her with something. Maybe a GC to a spa to get pampered, a GC to a restaurant that she likes, or a room at a hotel for a night. Or something for the house

i wouldnt ask her what she needs. i would just get her the gift, im sure she'll appreaciate it, its kind of awkward asking people what they want as a gift

I agree with not asking and just buying something. You can always buy her a gift card to a store out near her. But no matter what you buy her, make sure you include a letter apologizing for how late the gift is.

I agree with a GC to a restaurant that her and her DH like to go to or look on line and find a good restaurant in California. I think they would appreciate that more than a regular gift at this point.

Yeah, I don't think you should ask her what she wants. She will probably say don't worry about it and say not to get her anything at this point.

I would get her an American Express or Visa gift card. This way, it will be a nice surprise for her and she can get whatever she wants.

depending on how much your willing to spend you can look up a nice spa in her area and send them a certificate for a day at the spa for both the

yeah, I did this when I was late on a wedding gift. .. got them a certificate for dinner to a few local restaurants. I fished around saying I had a friend who was going and what were their 3 favorite restaurants then bought certificates for those . . .
