Really Need Advice!

Really Need Advice!

Ok. Here is the situation:

Both my FI and I are equally non-religious. I was 'raised' Catholic and he was 'raised' Jewish. We are totally confused on who we want as an officient. I am hoping that you guys can help me clarify how we feel in order to make a decision.

If we go religious, we want both a rabbi and priest to be there. So just a church wedding is out of the question. The ceremony will definitely take place at Oheka. So a true Roman Catholic priest will not marry us. Then we have to get some sham priest to perform the ceremony. We don't really feel comfortable with a lot of mentions of 'jesus,' 'christ,' and 'lord.'

So the justice of the peace seems like the way to go, but....

my picture of what a wedding looks like includes a religious figure. My mother would also prefer a priest. While my parents are paying for everything, they are not the type to hold it against us if we choose something they don't like.

To me, if we have to get some untraditional priest to marry us, it seems pointless because it is not the true religious thing anyway.

HELP!! I hope this is not too confusing. But I am so lost.

I also asked my two uncles and my dad, if they would become ordained via the internet. Everyone thought that would make a mockery out of our wedding. Like it is less legitimate. I kind of feel that it is more meaningful if you know the person.

i agree with you 100%
we are probably going to ask a friend of our's to become ordained via the internet and perform the ceremony becuse neither one of us is religious and we would rather not have a straner perform the ceremony.
personally, i think it would be making a mockery of the ceremony if you used someone just so that it presented a certain image.
good luck!!

aren't there some reformist priests(?) who aren't as 'hard core' as a 'true' priest but still have some type of religiocity to them who you can both get to know. I hope this helps I don't even know if it exists?

Ask Rick. I know he was married at OHEKA by a 'real' priest. I think it might be wierd to have your dad or your uncle perform the ceremony.

Am470,

Here's what my FH and I are doing. I like yourself was 'raised' Catholic and it's not the whole religion thing that bothers me it's more of the church (but that's not either here nor there). Anyway, FH has a very good friend that he went to school with that has become a pastor through the Church of Life (I think) and he is going to marry us at our outside wedding. It still gives the element of the church but allows us to do us.

My mom wasn't as happy as she would have been if we had gotten married in a church but she also knows me and she hasn't really brought it up.

The way we feel about it is, our family and friends will be there and that's what we think God intended weddings for.

You may not agree with your parents and they may not agree with you but I think that having someone who is close to you marrying you has just as much significance as some random priest or rabbi that you don't really know. (But that's just my opinion)

Hope this helps

We used Reverend Joe Divincenzo (a vendor on this sight). He allows you to customize your wedding ceremony to your beliefs and tastes - it can be religious, spiritual, non-denominational.

They were receptive to the Blessing of the Hands that we substituted for one of the readings. He said he could wear a preist like robe or a suit. he work a black shirt & pants with a white jacket at our ceremony so he looked official but not preisty.

THe ceremony was really beautiful and we received many compliments about it. FM me with any questions.

We are not religious, but wanted a spiritual ceremony. My husband's mom is ordained through the 'American Catholic Church' as a priest (alternative church) and does lovely spiritual but non-religious ceremonies. We had her marry us, and it was lovely. If you'd like her contact information, please let me know.
