Really stupid question I'm sure... (TMI)

Really stupid question I'm sure... (TMI)

Since everyone is saying for us to have intercourse to try to get labor going, I have a question. I know the sperm helps with the cervix dialating, but do you have to have an orgasm also??? Personally, at 39 weeks, I'm lucky to even be able to have sex! Just thought I'd ask. Thanks!

Sorry, Melissa...but I just enjoyed a chuckle from reading your question...hope you don't mind!

That said, I think it is *imperative* that HE has a big O, but I think as far as you're concerned...you're off the hook!

Oh... good!!! I'm not even in the mood to have sex, forget about that! So far it hasn't worked. I guess we'll just keep trying!

My friend's dr told her to go home and do some nookie when she was about 10 days overdue, and she said that it was the most uncomfortable thing she ever did and it didn't work!!! I was hysterical laughing!!!

I think that some people say to have sex because if your are able to 'O' than your uterus contracts perhaps helping bringing the labor on (the real contractions). Some people swear by different things...

Nancy, that's technically not true...about orgasms causing contractions. The real reason doctors say to go home and have sex (in late term pregnancies that are normal and NOT high risk), is b/c there is a certain substance or pH or something in a man's semen that can actually stimulate contractions and cause the woman's cervix to begin dialating, and thus progressing the onset of labor....

Just want to be accurate, for those that use this site as their primary 'research' tool for all things pregnancy...

My OB suggested sex and/or castor oil around week 39. I didn't know I had to DRINK the castor oil!! OK, just kiddin'.

In hindsight I should have tried it - maybe I wouldn't have had to be induced at 41w & 4d!!!

BTW, Melissa... when I was 40w3d my sono showed Sean was an estimated 10 pound, 1 ounce and my OB didn't seem concerned... LOL He was born a week later at 9 lbs., 5 oz.

I didn't say that it was technically true! I was just typing what some people believe. If you ask me, IMO, most of the old wives tales about bringing on labor are false, but like I said everyone can believe their own thing.

A baby will come when it is ready...when it is fully matured and ready for the world.
