Really Upset....Church

Re: Really Upset....Church

Thanks so much ladies.....I just want to clarify, its not the church that is dragging its feet but the Brooklyn diocese tribunal office....I wrote a letter to our monsignor in our church though to see if anything could be done on his end....thanks for your kind words/thoughts.

We're getting more & more fed-up w/ the whole Catholic church to be honest (this said after a faculty mtg in my school) saying some of us may be losing our jobs next year & they are raising our tuition, etc.....

I am about to go through a similar situation and I wanted to ask..The first time you were married was it in a catholic church?

Re: Really Upset....Church

I know EXACTLY what you're going through! DH was married previously. We're both born and raised Roman Catholics. I've never envisioned myself getting married any other way except in a Catholic Church until...we started the process. Literally the week we got engaged DH started the process with the annulment. From that day on we should have seen the writing on the walls. Here we are almost 2 years later...paperwork overnighted, phone calls made and everything done at their own slow pace. DH recently had his 'final' meeting with them in Dec and they said well...we don't see this taking much longer....it should be wrapped up by June. JUNE! A FULL 2 YEARS LATER! He asked DH if he was planning on remarrying and of course he wasn't going to lie and he said he already was. Funny thing about it is we were married by a good friend of his who left the Catholic Church, but was an ordained well respected Catholic Priest for 20 years....then he walks over to his bookcase and shows DH a picture of the two of them together! HA! ... ANYWAY... I guess what I'm trying to say is we just couldn't wait anymore. We're both seriously considering looking into bringing our children up another religion. We even had all intent to have a small ceremony in the church once the annulment went through, but the way the Church has been...it makes absolutely no sense.

Does anyone know if my fiance was not married in a church would I have to go through the same thing?

It's as if you are being punished for not staying with your ex. Not fair! And you are being so good starting off this impending marriage and joining this new parish. Maybe everything will work out or are you just going to forget this church and go book the Episcopal church?

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I can't imagine having that kind of uncertainty about where my ceremony would be in the midst of all the other planning.

I was born and raised an Episcopalian, and am being married at All Saints Episcopal Church in Bayside, Queens. Just wanted to give you an FYI, most Episcopal churches require that you are a member of the church (or your parents are members) for a certain amount of time before they will marry you/allow you to have your ceremony there. Being a 'member' means regularly attending Sunday services, and giving a 'pledge' which is a commitment to give a certain amount of money to the collection every week. (Not sure if they have this in the Catholic Church). You're also required to do one-on-one pre-marital counseling (similar to pre-cana, but we don't call it that, and it's just you, your FH, and the priest). Anyway, I know you probably don't want to think about contingency plans, but if you are thinking of having your ceremony in an Episcopal Church, you might want to look into their requirements now.

I think there's a parish finder on the Episcopal Church Long Island (Includes Brooklyn and Queens) Diocese website:

www.dioceselongisland.org

Good luck and keep your chin up!

See my earlier post on this subject. DH wasn't married in a church, so we didn't have to go through the annulment thing, but he needed something similar (less time and paperwork).

Good luck!
