So, I can get a REALLY good deal on a photographer, videographer, and DJ through connections I have, (I'm talking like 50-70% off) however they are on the complete opposite end of Long Island from my reception hall and have never worked with that hall before. They are all QUALITY vendors, but I'm debating whether it's worth it or if I should just use the ones reccommended by Crescent beach club since they obviously know the territory...I mean the DJ doesn't matter so much as the photographer/videographer since they know they have experience with the scenery, know the good photo-ops, etc... plus I really want to get good sunset pictures- so I'm thinking the reccommended photographers will know how to get the best ones... but I could potentially be saving $2/3000 by going with the other ones...
What would you do??

Re: Reccomended Vendors
I didn't go with any of the hall's recommended vendors. It turned out they were so much more money than the vendors I chose. Don't go with their recommended vendor because they are recommended...go with who you want, and are comfortable with.

Go with who you want. If you know they are quality vendors..why not. Use the money for something else.
A few vendors I spoke with that were not familiar with my RH volunteered to call the Rh and schedule a meeting so they could become familiar with it. Maybe yours will do that too? It can't hurt to ask.

A good photographer is a good photographer. He will have a good 'eye' and set up shots with great lighting and backgrounds, even if he's never been to the place before. That's his job. And if you know his work and know that he's talented, there's nothing to worry about.
My photog has never shot a wedding at the place I'm marrying at, and it never crossed my mind for a second that this would be a problem.

I agree that a good vendor will know what to do regardless of familiarity of territory.
You can also ask them to go to the reception hall with you for a 'trial run' or just to look if it'll make you feel better.

If you are saving money with ur own vendors and not your halls then def go with yours. YOu dont have to use your halls recomm vendors. The only recomm vendors I am using is my florist. My band and DJ is through me
