Receiving line?

Receiving line?

Anyone have any tips on avoiding well-meaning kisses? I know it sounds bad but...I went to a friends wedding last week and was a bit disturbed by the
receiving line. Wendy has a huge extended Italian family who all like to
kiss alot as a greeting. By the time I got to the bride and groom, the poor
bride had three tiny red lipstick kisses on each of her cheeks!
The groom had a big one as well.
Is this commmon at alot of weddings. I'm going to spend alot of time
getting ready and I don't want to be covered by (well meaning) lipstick
marks! Our receiving line is right before our photo session and I have two great aunts in particular who wear about a 3 coats of 1950's red lipstick, and the've left big prints on me since I was a kid! I don't want to worry about a big makeup repair right beofre pictures!
I know I'm paranoid but is there a nice way to avoid getting smoched? Did anyone else get lipsticked?

one thing i have heard is to hold your boquet because it keeps people from getting too close

i do not want to be touched by everyone either

OMG! I totally didn't think about it, and I've been to a bizillion weddings (we're Middle Eastern/Greek/Italians) infamous for the receiving line! YIKES! What about not having one? Just greeting the guests during the CH or when you go around to the tables?

Another suggestion... try your veil to the side. People will put their arm around you to hug you and it will pull your veil right out.
See what I mean

Ok we did a receiving line and yes hold your bouquet up but dont squish it either and it is hard but try to turn your head very far away and to avoid your veil from being pulled stretch that neck forward baby!!!! I had a catherdral veil and with all the hugs and kisses NO makeup and NO pull on veil and my family is Italian and Puerto Rican so many many kisses!!! you can do it and you should if you are in church your guest want to say hello and you should allow them to see you up close and they also want you to know they are there!!!
