Re: Receiving Line
I'm not having one because I don't want to kiss people I don't know and I want to really spend my time enjoying the day than standing there waiting for 100 people to kiss me. We'll say our thank yous at the CH.

Re: Receiving Line
I'm not having one either. I have a lot of guests (300+) and I'm not about to waste one minute of my picture time trying to greet everyone at the church. My mother thinks its very rude, which it probably is a little bit, but I figure we'll greet everone at the CH. Anywho...typically, on a receiving line, it's usually the bride, groom and both sets of parents. I've also seen the BM and MOH on the receiving line too.

Re: Receiving Line
I think it is old fashioned, but if its important to you to have one, do it, everyone is different. We are going to our cocktail hour about 20 minutes into it. We are going to enjoy every minute of our Wedding Day from beginning to end, so we will see everyone throughout the cocktail hour and reception. Im not doing the table rounds either, its like asking for a gift, I think its tacky. Good luck on whatever you choose, just think of your time restrictions.

I am def not having one. I can't remember why I was on a line being kissed but the next day I had a pimple on my cheek where everyone was kissing. GROSS!!

Re: Receiving Line
heh, us neither.... and we don't have the excuse of a large guest list.... we just don't want one.
I must confess I've always been bored as a guest waiting on that line....

Re: Receiving Line
well i guess i will be the first receiving line supporter here. We are having one, just with us and our parents, no bridal party. I think it will be nice, I always enjoy saying a personal hello to the bride and groom. People don't have to go through the line if they don't want to. Is there really a lot of kissing that goes down on a receiving line? I never associated the two - but I personally would be happy to greet anyone who has done me the honor of coming to the wedding - they are all family and loved ones. We do have the luxury of having a big gap between the ceremony and reception, for those with less time I can understand wanting to maximize your time so you can get to enjoy your cocktail hour.
I also never associated greeting people at tables as asking for gifts - I always thought it was the way to ensure that you personally greet all your guests.

Re: Receiving Line
ughhh... I didn't even think of all those people's slobber kisses all over you. I have to have one or my mom will flip. Maybe I'll just do that lean in & turn your head all the way to the side so that they kiss the air thing.

Same here. We also don't have a ton of time between the service and the CH, and FH and I want to be able to have pictures taken and enjoy at least some of the CH. We'll go from table to table at the reception and say thank-yous.

I too always saw this as a way to greet everyone!. FH and I had a long discusion last night (seperate post needed for that!) about adding a 1/2hr onto CH, I said OK we can greet all of our guests and then we don't have to do table rounds!! He said 'YES we do' I don't see why we have to both but whatever!
To answer your question, we are not doing a receiving line just becaue there are three sets of parents and I want a couple of minutes alone with FH b4 the CH. I will see everyone there!
